Airbus Defence and Space has announced the upcoming launch of Agnet Extensions, a new portfolio of optional feature packages for its mission-critical communications platform.
The company scheduled the commercial release of these packages for the third quarter of 2026. Notably, the announcement comes ahead of the Critical Communications World (CCW) 2026 exhibition, which will take place from June 16 to 18 at ExCeL London in the United Kingdom.
Key Features of Agnet Extensions
The new offering aims to provide organizations with greater flexibility to expand their collaboration, resource management, and situational awareness capabilities. Specifically, the initial release will introduce two distinct feature packages that integrate with existing deployments.
These packages allow public safety and security agencies to customize their telecommunications environments according to specific operational requirements. Meanwhile, Airbus plans to showcase the capabilities during the upcoming London event.
The Agnet Settings Pack
The first package, known as the Settings Pack, focuses on day-to-day operational efficiency and team management. For instance, it introduces predefined text messages, which allow users to send common communications to individuals or groups without retyping.
In addition, organizations can enrich contact profiles with up to five custom attributes, such as specialist roles or certifications. This feature enables dispatchers to perform faster and more precise contact searches during critical operations.
Furthermore, the package introduces a mobile administrative role. This capability allows authorized field personnel to create and manage talk groups directly from their mobile devices. Consequently, teams gain operational flexibility outside the traditional control room environment.
Advanced Geolocation Capabilities
The second package is the Advanced Geolocation package, which is available as a separately licensed capability. It delivers enhanced situational awareness through location-based services, including centralized geofencing.
This geofencing feature allows dispatchers to define virtual operational zones. As a result, the system automatically triggers notifications or talk-group updates when personnel enter or exit these designated areas.
To support operations in GPS-denied environments, such as tunnels or underground metro systems, the package includes Cell ID positioning. This technology determines user locations through mobile network signals. Additionally, it supports cross-organization geolocation sharing to coordinate resources during multi-agency operations.
Platform Requirements and Availability
To deploy these new capabilities, organizations must meet specific technical requirements. Specifically, Agnet Extensions require the Agnet MCX Release 25.1.10 as their foundation platform.
The feature packages will become available to Agnet as a Service (SaaS) customers in the third quarter of 2026. Meanwhile, Airbus will coordinate deployment and installation activities for larger enterprise environments.
