Today, AMD (NASDAQ: AMD) unveiled the introduction of its AMD Embedded+ architecture. This innovative solution integrates AMD Ryzen™ Embedded processors with Versal™ adaptive SoCs on a unified board. This approach offers scalable and energy-efficient solutions that hasten the development process for Original Design Manufacturer (ODM) partners.

AMD-validated, the Embedded+ integrated computing platform streamlines the path for ODM customers to reduce qualification and assembly times. This efficiency boosts market readiness without necessitating extra hardware and R&D investments. Employing the Embedded+ architecture facilitates the utilization of a unified software platform. This platform is crucial for developing designs that are power-efficient and compact and boast extended lifecycles. Such designs are increasingly sought in the medical, industrial, and automotive sectors.

Chetan Khona, Senior Director of Industrial, Vision, Healthcare, and Sciences Markets at AMD, highlighted the importance of timely data processing in automated systems. “In realms where decisions must be made in milliseconds, like industrial and medical fields, Embedded+ ensures the optimal use of partner and client data. This is achieved through energy-efficient and high-performance computing, allowing our partners to concentrate on fulfilling their market and customer needs.”

Embedded+ represents a pioneering integration of AMD’s leading x86 compute capabilities with superior integrated graphics and programmable hardware. This combination is vital for critical AI inferencing and sensor fusion applications. Adaptive computing shines in deterministic, low-latency processing, complemented by AI Engines that enhance high performance-per-watt inferencing. Ryzen Embedded processors bring to the table high-performance “Zen” cores and Radeon™ graphics, offering exceptional rendering, display options for an enhanced 4K multimedia experience, and a built-in video codec for 4K H.264/H.265 encode-decode capabilities.

This unique blend of low latency processing and high inferencing efficiency facilitates the high-performance execution of essential tasks. These include the integration of adaptive computing in real-time, flexible I/O, AI Engines for inferencing, and AMD Radeon graphics. This holistic solution leverages the best attributes of each technology to meet diverse needs.

Sapphire Technology Spearheads with First AMD Embedded+ ODM Solution

Embedded+ also empowers system designers to select from various ODM board solutions based on the Embedded+ architecture. This flexibility allows them to scale their product lines to deliver performance and power profiles tailored to their customer’s requirements.

The inaugural ODM solution leveraging Embedded+ architecture is the Sapphire Edge+ VPR-4616-MB. This low-power Mini-ITX form factor motherboard from Sapphire Technology encapsulates the full spectrum of capabilities at a mere 30W power consumption. It achieves this feat by harnessing the Ryzen Embedded R2314 processor and Versal AI Edge VE2302 Adaptive SoC. The VPR-4616-MB is also a complete system comprising memory, storage, a power supply, and a chassis.

Adrian Thompson, Senior Vice President of Global Marketing at Sapphire Technology, expressed enthusiasm for the Embedded+ platform. “By leveraging a computing architecture that is both validated and dependable, we can redirect our resources to enhance other product aspects. This strategic focus significantly reduces our time to market and R&D expenditures. Embedded+ stands out as a streamlined platform for crafting solutions with leading performance and features.”
