Anthropic compute deal: the company has secured a $1.8 billion computing agreement with cloud services provider Akamai Technologies to address rising demand for its Claude AI models. Akamai CEO F. Thomson Leighton confirmed on the company’s Q1 earnings call that the seven-year agreement represents the largest in Akamai’s history, though Akamai did not initially disclose the partner’s identity.
The arrangement marks the latest major infrastructure investment as the AI company races to scale its operations. Recent weeks have seen the firm execute multiple capacity agreements to support its rapidly expanding user base and model deployment requirements.
Additional Infrastructure Agreements
Anthropic signed a separate arrangement with SpaceX to access the full capacity of the Colossus 1 data centre in Memphis, Tennessee. That facility provides over 300 megawatts of power and access to more than 220,000 Nvidia GPUs, according to reporting from last week.
The company maintains a 5-gigawatt compute power agreement with Amazon, utilizing Trainium chips for model training and inference. A second 5-gigawatt arrangement with Google and Broadcom is scheduled to commence in 2027, adding further computational capacity to Anthropic’s infrastructure stack.
Strategic Technology Partnerships
Anthropic holds a strategic partnership with Microsoft and Nvidia that encompasses $30 billion of Azure capacity. These arrangements underscore the company’s commitment to securing diverse infrastructure sources across multiple cloud providers and hardware manufacturers.
Funding and Valuation Growth
Financial Times reported that Anthropic is pursuing a $50 billion funding round, which would value the company at approximately $900 billion. The expanded capital base would support the infrastructure buildout required to sustain growth in demand for its AI models and services.
Future Outlook
The sequence of major compute agreements reflects industry competition for data centre capacity and GPU availability. Anthropic’s ability to secure resources across Akamai, Amazon, Google, SpaceX, and established partnerships with Microsoft and Nvidia positions the company to meet ongoing scaling requirements as demand for Claude models continues to expand.
