The Apple Watch Series 12 officially debuted today featuring an updated Health Sensing System alongside the new S11 processor. Apple announced that the wearable device delivers higher-frequency heart rate tracking, expanded heart rate variability metrics, and a daily readiness score designed to assess physical recovery.
Hardware Specifications of Apple Watch Series 12
The wearable is built with new optical and electrical sensors powered by the S11 chip. Larger green LEDs in the optical heart sensor now measure pulse rates every five seconds throughout the day. In addition, the device measures heart rate variability up to 24 times more frequently, categorizing readings into recovery and overall metrics within the Heart Rate application.
Case options include 42mm and 46mm sizes in aluminum, titanium, and ceramic finishes. Aluminum models integrate Ceramic Shield 2 glass, which Apple states is 60 percent tougher than the Ion-X glass used on previous generations. The battery delivers up to 24 hours of standard use and up to 10 hours during outdoor workouts, while a 15-minute charge provides up to 12 hours of power.
Health Tracking and Readiness Scoring
The newly introduced readiness feature calculates a daily score from 0 to 10 based on sleep quality, recent training load, and vitals. It offers actionable recommendations such as Recover, Pace Yourself, Ready, or Go For It. These continuous measurements connect directly with updated health tech features arriving in iOS and watchOS.

Audio Intelligence and System Software
Running on watchOS 27, the smartwatch introduces Audio Intelligence tools managed by on-device processing. The hardware includes a Secure Exclave inside the S11 processor to isolate and immediately delete raw audio data. Features include Sound Recognition for environmental alerts, Live Rewind for conversational recall snippets, and automated Siri Recap summaries.
The system also integrates with artificial intelligence models via Apple Intelligence to support Siri AI on the wrist. New software gestures allow users to open Smart Stack widgets using a single-handed index finger and thumb tap.
Pricing and Retail Availability
As part of Apple’s connected smart devices lineup, pre-orders opened today in over 50 countries including Saudi Arabia, the UAE, the United States, and the United Kingdom. In-store retail availability begins on Friday, September 18, with a starting price of SAR 1,799.
