Strengthening Arab-Brazil economic ties requires a transition toward digital collaboration, according to proposals presented at the 5th Brazil and Arab Countries Economic Forum in Sao Paulo. Dr. Nidal Abou Zaki, Managing Director of Orient Planet Group, presented a roadmap during a panel titled ‘Digital Economy, AI & New Generation of Consumers’, organized by the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce.
Bilateral trade between the two regions reached 33.87 billion dollars in 2024, with Brazilian exports accounting for 23.68 billion dollars. However, commercial exchange remains concentrated in traditional commodities like food, oil, and gas. Dr. Abou Zaki stated that advanced technologies provide solutions to geographical distance and language barriers, allowing both sides to diversify trade into new digital sectors.
Proposed initiatives for Arab-Brazil economic ties
The presentation detailed several proposals to modernize cross-border commerce. Among these was an artificial intelligence trade bridge designed to provide businesses with real-time demand forecasts, faster customs clearance, and live market dashboards. The concept aims to move commercial operations toward data-driven planning.
In addition, Dr. Abou Zaki urged the Chamber to introduce a digital matchmaking platform offering scheduled online sessions throughout the year. He also proposed a live trilingual deal platform operating in Arabic, English, and Portuguese to help companies verify credentials and prepare commercial contracts directly.
Financial links and startup programs
In the financial sector, the roadmap included a cross-border fintech partnership connecting Brazil’s Pix payment system with Arab payment systems. This integration would simplify transactions for small and medium-sized enterprises and startups operating across borders.
With Brazil hosting more than 20,000 active startups, the speaker proposed a joint startup accelerator linking Gulf and Brazilian founders. The initiative would provide seed funding, market access, and mentorship to early-stage ventures.
Talent exchange and creative industries
Human capital development formed another core pillar of the discussion. Dr. Abou Zaki suggested a talent exchange program enabling young professionals to collaborate remotely on projects in areas such as financial technology, digital content, and gaming.
“The fundamental step in further strengthening Arab-Brazil relations will be overcoming the barrier of geographical distance; technology gives us the perfect solution for this.”
Dr. Nidal Abou Zaki, Managing Director of Orient Planet Group
Future outlook for intelligent commerce
The discussion addressed the impact of automated systems on retail and trade. Artificial intelligence is projected to contribute up to 320 billion dollars to the Middle East economy by 2030, driven by rapid digital adoption across the region. Arab-Brazil economic ties are expected to benefit as companies adopt intelligent shopping tools to analyze consumer intent and market demand.
