The appointment of Ezdehar bint Ahmed Khalil Allaf as the new Ashraqat Managing Director marks a historic milestone for Saudi women in the Tawafa sector. This decision represents a significant step in the ongoing development of the Hajj and Umrah system. Furthermore, the appointment aligns with the national objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 regarding the participation of women in leadership roles.
A Historic Appointment in the Tawafa Sector
Allaf is the first Saudi woman to hold this leadership position within the Tawafa Establishment for Pilgrims of Arab Countries, known as Ashraqat. The company established a transitional board to manage operations during this phase. Consequently, this transition aims to maintain operational continuity and strengthen institutional stability.
Priorities of the Ashraqat Managing Director
Allaf stated that the board will focus on implementing governance, transparency, and disclosure standards. In addition, the board plans to adopt nomination and election criteria approved by the General Assembly. These measures will prepare the regulatory and administrative requirements for holding new board of directors elections.
The transitional board aims to ensure an orderly institutional transition. Notably, this process is designed to strengthen shareholder confidence and long-term sustainability. Allaf stressed that decision-making will be measured against clear indicators, results, and figures within defined timelines.
Composition of the Transitional Board
As the newly appointed Ashraqat Managing Director, Allaf leads a transitional board with diverse administrative and financial expertise. She brings more than 20 years of professional experience in the banking and economy sectors. Previously, she chaired the Transformation and Investment Committees at the establishment.
The board also includes Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulqader Naseer, an expert in business administration and sustainable development. He specializes in project development, financing, and the management of strategic initiatives. Meanwhile, Mr. Muhammed bin Zakir Khoj joins the board with over 30 years of experience in financial management and restructuring.
Support from the Ministry of Commerce
Allaf expressed appreciation to the Minister of Commerce, Dr. Majid bin Abdullah Al Qasabi, for enabling the transitional board. This support allows the board to assume its responsibilities toward shareholders and clients. The government remains committed to supporting economic entities during transitional periods.
The transitional board was formed following the resignation of the majority of the previous board of directors. Therefore, the new leadership will focus on maintaining steady operations. The work of the Ashraqat Managing Director and the transitional board aligns with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030 and the Pilgrim Experience Program.
