ASUS sent its ASUS ExpertBook Ultra laptop to an altitude of 8,856 meters, higher than Mount Everest’s summit, to assess its reliability under real-world extreme conditions. The device operated continuously during ascent, descent, and impact with the ground.

Extreme Testing at 8,856 Meters

The test reached an altitude exceeding Everest’s 8,849 meters. At peak height, the ambient temperature dropped to -42.5°C, and air pressure was significantly lower than at sea level. The laptop was attached to a 3D-printed structure and lifted by a high-altitude balloon. After reaching maximum altitude, it descended in a controlled manner and struck wet ground at roughly seven meters per second yet continued operating normally.

The experiment was designed to monitor how a modern business laptop performs under conditions that are difficult to fully replicate in laboratories. While standard certification tests occur in controlled environments, real-world conditions often involve multiple simultaneous stress factors. The combination of rapid temperature changes, low air pressure, and mechanical shocks simulated these unpredictable scenarios.
