A significant majority of automotive dealers in the Middle East are adopting automotive dealers digitisation strategies to strengthen operational efficiency, sales performance, and service delivery amid intense competitive pressure. According to Keyloop, a provider of automotive retail solutions, 94 percent of dealers in the region now rely on data and digital tools to address operational challenges.
Rising vehicle sales targets and growing customer expectations are straining traditional dealership models across the region. Dealers face operational complexity from fragmented systems, manual processes, and limited data visibility that impede decision-making and service quality. The consequences are measurable; industry data shows dealers lose up to 37 percent of online leads due to delayed follow-ups, while only 1 percent of consumers rate the car-buying experience as ideal.
Market Growth and Operational Pressure
The UAE and Saudi Arabia registered significant automotive sales growth in 2024, with rates of 19.1 percent and 6.6 percent respectively. The two markets sold a combined 1.16 million new vehicles, worth more than USD 80 billion. This expansion reflects rising consumer demand and government investment in mobility and electrification initiatives across the region.
However, this growth intensifies operational demands. Monzer Tohme, Managing Director MEA and APAC at Keyloop, stated that dealers operate across multiple disconnected platforms for sales, finance, and aftersales services. “Fragmented systems, manual processes and limited data visibility are affecting dealer performance in the region. As sales volumes, brand portfolios and customer touchpoints increase, dealers across the region are facing growing pressure to modernise internal operations to maintain efficiency and service standards,” Tohme said.
Customer Retention and Service Challenges
Customer satisfaction directly impacts dealer competitiveness. Research indicates 45 percent of customers are willing to switch car brands due to poor aftersales service quality. Additionally, dealers managing complex operations struggle with coordinating customer interactions across multiple touchpoints, from initial contact through vehicle ownership.
Data integration and real-time visibility across workflows have become essential for retaining customers and maintaining operational efficiency. Tohme noted that dealers increasingly recognize improved data use and digital tools as critical for strengthening operational performance. “There is a growing consensus among dealers that improved use of data and digital tools is crucial for strengthening operational efficiency,” he explained.
Industry Dynamics Shaping Digital Transformation
Several industry trends are driving dealers to reassess their operations. Electric vehicle penetration is accelerating across the Gulf, with the UAE leading at 6 percent adoption. New automotive brands and business models are entering the market rapidly, while regulatory requirements around data governance, reporting, and customer transparency continue to increase. These factors reinforce the need for dealers to build more resilient and adaptable processes to remain competitive.
The regional automotive landscape is evolving faster than many dealerships can adapt using traditional methods. Tohme emphasized that dealers must shift from viewing efficiency improvements as incremental gains to building foundational processes designed for scale. “In a rapidly evolving industry, the ability to access and act on reliable data across the entire vehicle ownership cycle has become central to the business performance of dealers,” he said.
Path Forward for Dealers
As the region experiences strong sales growth, rapid electrification, and changing government policies, effective use of data and digital solutions will play an increasingly central role in dealer success. Dealerships that implement integrated systems offering clearer, real-time visibility across sales, finance, and aftersales workflows will be better positioned to serve customers and maintain competitive advantage. The shift toward digitisation is no longer optional for dealers seeking to operate at scale and meet market expectations in the Middle East automotive sector.
