OpenAI has officially launched the ChatGPT Work agent, a new AI assistant designed to handle complex business tasks and automate workflows across multiple applications.
This new tool can gather information from your daily apps to create finished materials like spreadsheets, slides, and documents. It operates independently for hours by breaking large projects into smaller, manageable steps.
How the ChatGPT Work agent Automates Your Daily Tasks
The system runs on OpenAI’s latest frontier model, GPT-5.6, which provides advanced reasoning capabilities in the field of artificial intelligence.
Users can connect their favorite tools using the unified plugins directory, which supports Google Drive, Microsoft Teams, and Slack to manage apps & software easily. By typing “@” followed by the app name, you can direct the assistant to pull context from specific sources. This integration makes it easier to manage projects without constantly switching between different software windows.
Scheduled Tasks and Computer Use Capabilities
A key feature of this release is Scheduled Tasks, which allows the assistant to perform actions automatically on a set schedule. For example, it can review Slack updates every week and refresh a meeting agenda.
On desktop computers & laptops, the “Computer Use” feature allows the AI to click, type, and move files on your behalf. This automation ensures that repetitive administrative chores are handled in the background while employees focus on high-value strategic decisions. This helps teams save hours of manual labor every week.
Introducing Sites and Codex Integration
OpenAI is also introducing “Sites” in public beta, allowing users to turn their ideas into interactive web apps or dashboards. Additionally, the Codex developer tool is merging into the main desktop application. This brings advanced coding features, like pull request reviews and multi-repository support, into a single workspace. According to OpenAI, nearly 100% of their internal teams now use these tools to accelerate their daily operations.
Pricing and Global Availability
The ChatGPT Work agent is rolling out today on web and mobile for Pro, Enterprise, and Edu plans, with Plus and Business users getting access soon.
The updated desktop app is available globally for Windows and macOS users on all plans, including the free tier. Organizations can manage access and security through centralized admin controls to protect sensitive company data. Enterprise administrators can also set spend controls to manage usage costs effectively as adoption grows across different departments.
