Chrome Skills Gemini is Google’s new feature that allows users to save and reuse Gemini prompts with a single click while browsing. The addition makes it faster to access frequently used AI tasks without manually retyping or copying prompts each time.
Chrome Skills function as saved prompts within the browser’s Artificial Intelligence integration. Previously, users had to reenter prompts manually or copy-paste from saved documents whenever they wanted Gemini to perform a task. The new feature eliminates this repetitive step by storing favorite prompts for quick access.
How Chrome Skills Work
Users can save a Gemini prompt as a reusable Skill by clicking the plus button in the Gemini sidebar. Once saved, the Skills sync across devices for users logged into their Google account. Accessing a saved Skill requires typing a forward slash (/) in Gemini or clicking the plus button to bring up the saved collection.
Chrome Skills maintain the same security protocols as manually typed prompts. If a Skill involves adding events to a calendar or sending messages, Gemini requests confirmation before executing the action. Users can also add multiple tabs if a Skill pulls information from various sources.
Chrome Skills Library and Pre-Built Options
Google is launching a Skills Library alongside the feature rollout, offering pre-built Gemini prompts that users can add to their collection and customize. The library includes Skills designed for various tasks, from practical applications to experimental uses. Examples include calculating protein macros for recipes, generating side-by-side comparison tables from multiple tabs, and creating summaries of long documents or websites.
The library also features more experimental Skills, such as one that creates movie trailer-style dramatizations of webpage content. Users maintain control over which model variant to use, with the Pro version offering better results at the cost of longer processing times, while faster models prioritize speed over accuracy.
Availability and Rollout Timeline
Chrome Skills began rolling out on April 15, 2026, and are available by default for all Chrome installations with the language set to US English. The feature does not require a paid AI subscription plan. Users who do not wish to use the feature can ignore it by not opening the Gemini sidebar.
The Skills feature represents Google’s continued effort to integrate AI tools into Chrome, the world’s most popular browser.
