FiiO has launched the FiiO FG3 gaming headset, marking the audio company’s first entry into the gaming audio market.
The over-ear device combines the company’s established audio engineering with virtual 7.1 surround sound and cross-platform compatibility. The product is designed to provide accurate positional audio for players using PCs and consoles.
Coaxial Dual Driver Technology
The FiiO FG3 gaming headset features a coaxial driver arrangement that includes a 50 mm dynamic driver and a 16 mm dynamic driver. By radiating sound from a single point source, this design maintains consistent phase and directionality. Consequently, this improves positional accuracy and creates a wider soundstage during gameplay.
An electronic two-way crossover assigns low and mid frequencies to the larger 50 mm driver. Meanwhile, the 16 mm driver reproduces high frequencies. This configuration extends the overall frequency response from 10 Hz to 40 kHz, which improves detail retrieval across the audio spectrum.
Audio Processing and Virtual Surround Sound
At the center of the device is a dual-core digital signal processor (DSP) chip. This chip processes complex audio with low latency. Additionally, the integrated digital-to-analog converter (DAC) supports audio up to 192 kHz/24-bit, while the built-in headphone amplifier delivers up to 80 mW of output power.
For spatial immersion, the headset incorporates a virtual 7.1 surround sound algorithm with Cinema and Action modes. The detachable microphone uses an Environmental Noise Cancellation (ENC) algorithm to reduce background noise. Furthermore, users can monitor their own voice with low latency using hardware-based sidetone monitoring.
Platform Compatibility of the FiiO FG3 gaming headset
The device uses a driver-free plug-and-play design that supports Windows operating systems, smartphones, and laptops. Notably, adaptive UAC 1.0 and UAC 2.0 compatibility enables use with PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and Nintendo Switch 2. This makes it highly versatile for users with multiple computers and consoles.
Instead of requiring dedicated software installations, configuration is managed through the web-based FiiO Control WEB platform. Users can create and save custom 10-band EQ settings directly to the headset. As a result, these settings remain active across different host devices.
Physical Design and Pricing
The physical structure of the headset includes a stainless steel headband and a foldable design for transport. The ear pads use breathable woven mesh fabric and memory foam cushions to support comfort during long sessions. The total weight of the unit is approximately 315 grams, including the detachable microphone.
The FiiO FG3 gaming headset is priced at $69.99, £69.99, and €69.99. It is available immediately in retail markets. This launch represents FiiO’s expansion from its traditional focus on portable music players, DACs, and headphone amplifiers into the dedicated smart devices and gaming accessories sector.
