The first mass-production units of the FREELANDER 8 have rolled off the assembly line at the Changshu Manufacturing Base in China. This milestone marks the transition of the brand from product development to global market readiness. Meanwhile, test vehicles have arrived in the Middle East for local road testing ahead of the brand’s debut in Abu Dhabi this September.

The manufacturing base in Changshu serves as the production hub for both domestic and international markets. Specifically, the facility incorporates digital manufacturing systems and flexible production processes to support new energy vehicle production. Consequently, these systems strengthen the brand’s ability to deliver vehicles that meet global standards.

Yin Tongyue, Chairman of Chery Group, stated that international markets are highly important to the future growth of the brand. Furthermore, he emphasized the commitment to accelerating global expansion during the roll-off ceremony. Middle Eastern media representatives also toured the factory to observe the manufacturing capabilities first-hand.

Mass Production of FREELANDER 8 Begins

The production facility represents a total investment of over 3.1 billion USD, with an additional 440 million USD allocated for new energy smart devices and manufacturing upgrades. Notably, the upgraded facility features more than 1,100 robots and a fully automated body shop. In addition, end-to-end digital quality traceability systems are used to maintain high levels of manufacturing precision.

Every vehicle undergoes detailed validation processes before leaving the production line. Specifically, these processes include battery sealing checks, ADAS calibration, and heavy-rain simulation tests. Moreover, the facility uses sustainable manufacturing practices such as water recycling and low-carbon production technologies.

Manufacturing Facility Upgrades and Investment

Road testing in the Middle East represents another stage in the development programme for the FREELANDER 8. Currently, test vehicles are undergoing validation across desert, coastal, and urban environments to verify performance under demanding conditions. As a result, engineers can evaluate thermal management and all-terrain capability in real-world regional driving conditions.

The vehicle features Super Intelligent Valet Parking, which allows users to remotely manage parking and vehicle summon functions through a mobile apps application. This system has been optimized for scenarios commonly encountered in the Middle East, where extreme summer temperatures can make vehicle access uncomfortable.

Middle East Road Testing and Regional Optimization

The brand is co-developed by Chery and Jaguar Land Rover, combining design heritage with technology. Specifically, Jaguar Land Rover leads the design and premium DNA, while Chery provides technology and supply chain capabilities. The vehicle is built on three core product pillars, which are British Craftsmanship, Smart Confidence, and All-Terrain Freedom.

Brand Background and Launch Strategy

The United Arab Emirates has been selected as the first international launch market for the brand. Consequently, the upcoming Abu Dhabi debut in September 2026 will serve as a strategic gateway for future economy growth in the Middle East. The company plans to accelerate preparations for customer deliveries following the official regional introduction.

The FREELANDER 8 represents a new chapter developed specifically for the new energy vehicle era. Ultimately, the brand aims to establish a long-term presence in the region by delivering vehicles that combine design and technology.
