A Gemini desktop agent appears to be in development at Google, based on new interface changes spotted inside Gemini Enterprise ahead of Google I/O. A new Agent tab has appeared in the product, placed directly next to the standard chat interface, signaling a shift toward task-based workflows.
What the New Agent Tab Contains
Inside the Agent area, two entry points are visible: New Task and Inbox. Starting a task opens a chat view with a side panel on the right. That panel includes fields for Goal, Agents, Connected apps, Files, and a toggle labeled “Require human review.”
A Workspace, Not Just a Chatbot
The layout no longer resembles a standard chatbot interface. It looks more like a task execution workspace, where a model receives a goal, access to tools, connected services, and files, then carries out a multi-step workflow. The design closely mirrors systems like Claude Cowork from Anthropic, where software agents handle broader job sequences rather than single prompts.
The “Require Human Review” Toggle
The “Require human review” option stands out as a key detail. It suggests Google is preparing agents that may take actions requiring oversight before execution. This points beyond a web-based assistant toward something closer to desktop-level task handling. Whether those actions involve browser control or local file operations remains unclear at this stage.
Google is already known to be building a desktop app for AI Studio. The open question is whether that effort and the Gemini agent work eventually merge into a single product, or remain separate tracks.

The Agent tab is not the only area changing. Google has also been updating Projects and Skills inside Gemini Enterprise. Taken together, these changes suggest a coordinated rollout rather than isolated feature additions.
