GPT-5.3 Instant, OpenAI’s updated artificial intelligence model for ChatGPT, is now available to all users as of February 12, 2026. The update targets everyday usability, focusing on conversational tone, response accuracy, and web search quality.
Fewer Refusals and Reduced Disclaimers
OpenAI said GPT-5.3 Instant significantly reduces unnecessary refusals compared to its predecessor, GPT-5.2 Instant. The model now delivers direct answers more consistently, cutting back on lengthy preambles and overly cautious language that previously interrupted conversations. Users who flagged GPT-5.2 Instant for refusing answerable questions or adding unsolicited moral commentary should notice a measurable difference.
GPT-5.3 Instant Improves Web Search Quality
The model also improves how it handles web-sourced information. GPT-5.3 Instant balances online search results with its internal knowledge more effectively, reducing the tendency to return long lists of loosely connected links. It better identifies the intent behind a question and surfaces the most relevant information upfront, without sacrificing response speed.
Hallucination Rates Drop Across Key Domains
OpenAI measured accuracy improvements using two internal evaluations. The first focused on higher-stakes domains including medicine, law, and finance. The second used de-identified ChatGPT conversations that users had flagged as factual errors. On the higher-stakes evaluation, GPT-5.3 Instant reduces hallucination rates by 26.8% when using the web and by 19.7% when relying solely on internal knowledge. On the user-feedback evaluation, hallucinations decrease by 22.5% with web access and by 9.6% without it.
“GPT-5.3 Instant delivers more accurate answers, richer and better-contextualized results when searching the web, and reduces unnecessary dead ends, caveats, and overly declarative phrasing that can interrupt the flow of conversation.”

Conversational Style and Writing Capabilities
OpenAI said the model adopts a more focused and natural conversational style. Phrases such as “Stop. Take a breath.” — which users described as overbearing — have been reduced. The company also said it is working to keep ChatGPT’s personality more consistent across updates. In addition, GPT-5.3 Instant performs better as a writing assistant, handling fiction, prose refinement, and expressive tasks with greater range and structural control.
Availability, Pricing, and Known Limitations
GPT-5.3 Instant is available to all ChatGPT users starting February 12, 2026. Developers can access it via the API under the identifier ‘gpt-5.3-chat-latest’. Updates to Thinking and Pro tiers will follow. GPT-5.2 Instant remains available for paid users under Legacy Models for three months, with a retirement date of June 3, 2026. OpenAI noted that non-English language support — particularly Japanese and Korean — remains an area of ongoing improvement, as responses in those languages can still sound stilted or overly literal. The company said comprehensive safety training and evaluations for GPT-5.3 Instant are detailed in its system card.
