HPE Juniper Networking SRX400, a new firewall series from Hewlett Packard Enterprise (NYSE: HPE), targets consistent security coverage from core infrastructure to edge locations as artificial intelligence workloads expand across distributed enterprise sites. The company made the announcement on March 31, 2026, during RSA Conference 2026, held March 23–26 at Moscone Center, South Hall, Booth 1255.

David Hughes, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Network Security Solutions at HPE, said the AI era no longer permits treating security as a separate layer from the broader technology stack. Hughes stated that as AI workloads expand across distributed environments, deeper integration of networking and security becomes necessary to reduce risk, improve visibility, and provide the confidence enterprises require.

HPE Juniper Networking SRX400 Series: Edge Security at Scale

The SRX400 series brings carrier-grade security capabilities to smaller sites and space-constrained environments. The hardware supports a unified security approach spanning core to edge, with hardware-embedded protection against tampering. Moreover, the series delivers high performance and simplified management in a compact form factor, helping prevent remote sites from becoming weak points in enterprise security posture.

HPE positions the series within its autonomous network architecture, which combines AI-driven automated operations, an embedded zero-trust model, shared visibility, and end-to-end policy enforcement. As AI tools expand into retail stores, clinics, universities, and branch offices, these distributed sites face challenges including unmanaged access to AI tools, inconsistent policies, and elevated data leakage risk.

AI Governance Controls in the Hybrid Mesh Firewall

HPE also updated its hybrid mesh firewall with capabilities designed to help organizations manage AI tool usage without restricting access to approved applications. The updates address a challenge facing more than half of enterprises that have adopted AI technologies: balancing productivity against the risk of unintended sensitive data exposure.

The new controls include visibility and access management for AI sites and applications, allowing one-click access restrictions or proactive blocking of unauthorized or high-risk sites. Security teams gain the ability to test prompts in real time, filter keywords, and control file uploads to external AI tools to limit data loss. Furthermore, identity-based centralized protection extends consistent policy enforcement across physical, virtual, and cloud environments, applying policies to users and workloads rather than devices alone.

The HPE Security Director solution automates security operations workflows according to established best practices. Updated chatbot capabilities provide step-by-step guidance and real-time support for system configuration tasks.

Workload Resilience and Sovereign Security Enhancements

HPE expanded its resilience portfolio through several updates to HPE Zerto, which now supports broader platform coverage, new recovery playbooks, and expanded support for AI workloads including virtual GPUs (vGPU). Integration with Microsoft Defender is also included. Direct, secure access to immutable HPE StoreOnce data enables malware scanning and forensic investigation, accelerating recovery to clean system states. HPE StoreOnce OS 5.2 is currently available, while HPE Zerto 10 U9 is scheduled for release in April 2026.

Confidential computing capabilities are being added to HPE Morpheus, using hardware-based trusted execution environments from AMD and Intel alongside centralized key management through Thales CipherTrust. This keeps data encrypted during active use, supporting compliance with sovereignty and regulatory requirements in hybrid and air-gapped environments. This feature is scheduled for availability in Q3 2026.

Post-Quantum Cryptography and Threat Intelligence Expansion

HPE added post-quantum cryptography (PQC) readiness to Junos Evolved, with plans to extend support to Junos during summer 2026. The updates align with National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) standards and include updated cryptographic libraries supporting FIPS 203/204, FIPS 204-based software signing, and Quantum Buffer for SSH. These capabilities extend to HPE ProLiant Compute Gen12 servers equipped with HPE Integrated Lights-Out (iLO) 7, available in summer 2026.

HPE Threat Labs, the company’s dedicated cybersecurity research unit, is expanding its capabilities by integrating network telemetry data and additional expertise to deliver AI-supported real-time threat insights. The unit aims to convert threat intelligence into actionable responses faster, monitoring emerging threats and supporting the shift toward autonomous, zero-trust security architectures.

The SRX400 firewall series and new AI governance features are scheduled for availability in Q2 2026. Confidential computing within HPE Morpheus targets Q3 2026 availability.
