Huawei NG WAN took center stage at the Upperside World Congress 2026 in Beijing on March 25, 2026, as Huawei hosted its IP Gala summit under the theme “Next-Generation WAN: Driving New Growth for Telecom Networks.” The company released a white paper on Next-Generation WAN (NG WAN) networks in partnership with the World Broadband Association (WBBA) and the IPv6 Forum.

The white paper outlines a target telecommunications network architecture for 2030. It aims to help operators build secure, end-to-end networks that guarantee user experience while driving revenue growth and operational efficiency.

Three Pillars of Huawei NG WAN Architecture

Jun Kai, Head of the Router Domain at Huawei’s Data Communication Product Line, stated that NG WAN networks must be built on three core pillars: multi-dimensional awareness, security and resilience, and autonomous network operations. He said these pillars help operators accelerate network monetization and reduce costs while improving efficiency.

The white paper provides a comprehensive framework for 2030 target networks. It defines key characteristics, target architectures, value scenarios, advanced technologies, and network construction specifications. The document offers strategic guidance for global telecom operators as they pursue network evolution and innovation.

AI Integration and IPv6 Strategies Drive Infrastructure Upgrades

Latif Ladid, President of the IPv6 Forum, highlighted how countries are implementing strategies focused on sovereign artificial intelligence clouds, security and resilience, and quantum security. He said these efforts pave the way for operators to develop more advanced infrastructure networks. The IPv6 Forum works with global industry partners to promote deep integration of technologies including IPv6/SRv6, autonomous network operations, and application awareness with AI.

Telecom operators are leveraging AI capabilities, supported by IPv6 and SRv6 technologies, to unlock network potential, reduce expenditure, and improve operational performance. This shift reflects a broader industry move toward AI-driven network infrastructure.

Turkcell Shares NG WAN Deployment Experience

Mehmet Durmus, Co-Director of IP/MPLS Core Networks and Data Center Networks at Turkcell in Turkey, shared his company’s experience implementing NG WAN networks. He noted that emerging developments such as 5G/5G-A and intelligent computing place increasing pressure on traditional networks.

In response, Turkcell adopted solutions including lossless RDMA technology, AI-powered dynamic energy saving, and fiber health monitoring. These measures produced results in intelligent computing, energy saving, and smart operations and maintenance. Durmus said these efforts set a benchmark for next-generation IP carrier networks.

Huawei NG WAN Network Capabilities and Technical Specifications

Zhou Huan, Deputy Head of the Router Domain at Huawei’s Data Communication Product Line, outlined the fundamentals, key scenarios, and business value of NG WAN networks. He stated that NG WAN will be AI-centric, featuring a fully converged network architecture that runs all services and integrates network, computing, and cybersecurity capabilities.

The network will be built on a green ultra-broadband foundation using 400GE/800GE technologies and will provide multi-dimensional awareness capabilities. These features aim to ensure premium user and service experience, increase average revenue per user and daily operational usage, and guarantee continuous service operation through full security and resilience. The network will also use agents to enhance autonomous operations.

Technical experts at the summit shared practices covering service awareness, targeted marketing, full security and resilience, and intelligent network management in home broadband scenarios. Huawei said it will continue strengthening partnerships with global telecom operators and industry leaders to drive sustainable growth for the sector.
