Agent Compute, a platform developed by io.net, now allows artificial intelligence agents to provision their own GPU infrastructure without human intervention. io.net launched the platform on March 25, 2026, in New York, targeting developers and small teams priced out of traditional cloud services.

What Agent Compute Does

Agent Compute enables autonomous systems to spin up GPU clusters, run workloads, and scale resources up or down independently. The platform connects agents directly to io.net’s marketplace of over 10,000 GPUs across 138 regions in more than 130 countries. Compute costs run up to 70% lower than traditional cloud providers, according to the company.

How It Differs from Existing Cloud Services

Platforms such as AWS and Google Cloud require lengthy onboarding, complex billing structures, and minimum spending commitments. These requirements have historically excluded small teams and solo developers. Agent Compute removes those requirements entirely, allowing on-demand provisioning and immediate resource release upon task completion.

The system uses the Model Context Protocol (MCP), which gives agents visibility into available GPU resources, costs, and specifications. Developers can also set spending limits and resource caps to maintain oversight. The company cited real-world incidents to illustrate the risks of unguarded agent spending: Amazon’s AI shopping agent triggered a 13-hour outage after deleting a production environment, and OpenClaw users reported monthly bills exceeding $3,600 from runaway workflows.

Sharma added that the dependency on humans for infrastructure provisioning currently represents a bottleneck for autonomous agents. As agents grow more capable, he said, they require the ability to manage their own compute in real time.

The platform has potential implications for the broader startup ecosystem. A solo developer can now build agent-based systems that scale across multiple regions, process large datasets, or deploy models on demand — capabilities previously requiring enterprise-level resources. The shift moves the primary constraint from infrastructure access to the scope of what developers choose to build.
