King Saud University held the second day of its three-day exhibition marking World Creativity and Innovation Day on April 22, 2026, displaying KSU medical innovations developed by patent-holding researchers under the university’s Innovation Center. The showcase reflects the strength of Saudi Arabia’s innovation ecosystem in line with Saudi Vision 2030 targets for a knowledge-based economy.

Associate Professor Dr. Abdulaziz K. Assaifan from the Department of Biomedical Technology developed a new technology using flexographic printing to produce high-quality, low-cost medical bandages. The innovation improves manufacturing processes and enables affordable advanced medical products with broader access to healthcare across the Kingdom.

Dental Crown Stabilization Device Receives International Patent

Pediatric dentistry consultant Dr. Khalid Jamal Alanazi received a US patent (US12,564,482 B1) and a Saudi patent for his “Handheld Vise for Dental Crowns.” The device enables single-hand crown stabilization that reduces deformation and errors while enhancing safety and improving treatment quality in pediatric dentistry. The engineering design features adjustable jaws with a curved surface matching metal crown shapes, plus an ergonomic handle that reduces procedure time and improves both clinician and patient experience.

KSU Medical Innovations in Dental Research and Anesthesia

Noura Hamad Al-Saad, specializing in dental prosthetics at KSU College of Dentistry, presented the “Research Dental Mounting Aid” that provides precise implant fixation without shrinkage. The tool improves research reliability in pre-clinical dental implant studies and reduces errors and material waste. The innovation has applications across dental schools and implant manufacturer laboratories for improving test quality and accelerating product development.

Lamia Khalaf, specializing in periodontics at KSU College of Dentistry, presented the “Tripod Attachment for Syringe” (US12,478,736 B1), a dental anesthesia tool with three legs that gradually retract tissue. The device provides clearer visibility during injection, reduces injection errors, and improves patient safety by preventing unintended needle punctures.

These medical innovations collectively reflect Saudi researchers’ ability to transform clinical challenges into internationally recognized practical solutions.
