Liferay CMS, a fully headless content management system, reached general availability on April 9, 2026, giving marketing, development, and IT teams a single platform to create, manage, and deliver digital content across multiple channels. The product comes from Liferay, a provider of Digital Experience Platforms, and is built on the same core architecture as Liferay DXP.
The system targets enterprise organizations that need to distribute content across native mobile apps, customer portals, and web properties simultaneously. By using a decoupled architecture, it separates the content layer from the presentation layer, allowing developers to pull content through APIs while editors work independently in a visual interface.
What Liferay CMS Offers
Liferay CMS introduces a feature called Spaces, which serves as the primary organizational unit within the platform. Each Space gives a team a dedicated environment for content creation, access management, and cross-department collaboration. The platform also includes AI-powered translation tools to help global organizations handle multi-language content without manual overhead.
Embedded analytics display performance metrics, including views and downloads, directly inside the content interface. This means teams can assess asset performance without switching to a separate reporting tool. In addition, AI-assisted workflows cover translation, localization, and content review tasks.
Key Features at a Glance
- Global Content Visibility: a single view to search, review, and reuse content across regions and brands
- Headless Architecture: decoupled deployments combined with centralized governance controls
- Embedded Analytics: views and downloads metrics shown at the point of work
- AI-Assisted Workflows: covers translation, localization, and content review
- Multi-Site Management: centralized control with team-specific access for franchises or multi-property organizations
- Unified Collaboration: shared content areas and advanced access controls built around a single source of truth

“Across the Middle East, enterprises are moving away from fragmented content systems to unified, centralized architectures that can support scale and speed simultaneously. Headless CMS is becoming a critical enabler in this shift, allowing enterprises to deliver consistent digital experiences across channels while maintaining control and governance. With Liferay’s intuitive CMS, teams can manage content centrally, reduce operational complexity, and accelerate time-to-market and deeper customer engagement.”

Middle East Context and Modular Strategy
Moussalam Dalati, General Manager for Liferay Middle East, Africa, and France, noted that regional enterprises are shifting away from fragmented content management systems toward centralized architectures. He said the move is driven by the need to support both scale and speed at the same time, with headless CMS playing a key role in that transition.
The product follows a modular design. Organizations can start with the headless CMS and later activate additional capabilities, such as advanced commerce, page building, or AI-driven personalization, as their digital requirements grow. Because Liferay CMS shares its core architecture with Liferay DXP, adding those capabilities does not require a platform migration.
Liferay said the API-first approach makes Liferay CMS suitable for organizations that want to adopt a headless strategy today while keeping the option to expand into a full digital experience platform later. The company serves over a thousand organizations across multiple industries globally, with its open-source DXP supporting marketing websites, commerce platforms, customer portals, and intranets.
