The newly announced Monako Glass represents a shift in wearable computing by integrating a fully functional Linux operating system into a pair of glasses.
Designed by Percy Lau, the device allows developers to run coding agents directly on their eyewear. Meanwhile, the development team confirmed that the system supports namespaces, cgroups, and seccomp to ensure secure process isolation.
Introduction to Monako Glass
According to the development team, the onboard Linux system is completely open to users. Developers can connect to Monako Glass using SSH or ADB, allowing them to treat the wearable as a standard Linux server. Consequently, users can run Claude Code, Codex, and other AI-driven coding tools directly on the hardware.
The system comes pre-installed with Python and Lua, enabling users to write and execute applications directly on the device. Specifically, the application framework relies on Lua, which the team selected because it is lightweight and runs without compilation. Notably, the device features a monochrome screen and includes a camera with gesture control.
Technical Specifications and Open Source Architecture
The developers are also exploring a camera-free variant that utilizes a control ring instead of gesture controls. To address vision correction, the company has secured a patent for lens fitting services. Furthermore, they have onboarded an optician to finalize these services for users who require prescription lenses.
In addition, the team plans to upload the entire codebase to GitHub to allow backers to audit the software. This open-source approach ensures transparency and allows developers to customize the operating system. Users can even wipe the built-in applications completely and replace them with custom code.
Manufacturing Timeline and Pricing
Preorders for Monako Glass are currently open on the official website for a refundable reservation fee of $19. Early supporters can purchase the device for $399, while mass production is scheduled to begin in Shenzhen in July 2026. Shipping is expected to commence in August 2026.
Future Outlook for Wearable Linux
As the project moves toward mass production, the developers plan to document their manufacturing journey in Shenzhen. This open development model aims to build trust within the developer community.
