Snapchat Plans has officially launched as a dedicated set of tools designed to help users organize real-world meetups directly inside the application. The new system allows individuals to coordinate in-person events without having to rely on external platforms. According to a report by The Verge, the release formalizes coordination behaviors that previously occurred informally within direct messages and group chats.
How the Snapchat Plans System Works
Users can set up an event by entering a title, selecting a date and time, and picking a specific meeting location. The host can invite up to 200 friends simultaneously. Each invitation is delivered privately through individual one-on-one chat threads rather than a public feed. Furthermore, the invites feature dynamic Bitmoji avatars that visually update as recipients respond to the invitation.
Invitees can respond using three distinct RSVP options: Going, Maybe, or Can’t Go. In addition, guests can view the full attendee list and modify their attendance status whenever necessary. Automatic reminder notifications are sent to confirmed attendees one hour before the event begins, ensuring participants stay informed.
Managing Events on Profiles
To keep schedules organized, the platform added a new My Plans section on user profiles. This area lists all upcoming, current, and past gatherings in one unified view. When visiting a friend’s profile, users can also view shared events that both individuals plan to attend. This setup streamlines coordination across different mobile devices without cluttering message histories.
Competition in Social Event Coordination
The introduction of event features places Snap in direct competition with dedicated invitation services such as Partiful. Other major technology firms are pursuing similar capabilities; for instance, Apple recently introduced its dedicated Invites application for personal gatherings. As consumer behavior shifts across various apps, major networks are attempting to capture real-life interactions.
The move also addresses user retention across competitive social media platforms. By facilitating physical meetups such as study sessions, casual hangouts, and birthday celebrations, the application seeks to strengthen everyday connections among friends.
Privacy and Availability
All events created through the platform remain private and invite-only by default. Hosts retain full control over guest lists, with the ability to add more participants or edit event logistics at any stage. The company stated that these tools aim to reduce missed gatherings caused by buried chat messages and lost scheduling details.
