Zain KSA and Huawei have launched Saudi Arabia’s first end-to-end telecommunications infrastructure upgrade featuring an 800G optical network to enhance data transport. According to a report by Telecom Review, this deployment prepares the operator’s fiber backbone for high-capacity data transport. Consequently, the system will support high-speed connectivity for 5G, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence services.
Launch of the 800G optical network
The newly deployed infrastructure utilizes Fixed 5.5G (F5.5G) technology to optimize data transmission across the Kingdom. Specifically, this 800G optical network reduces the cost per bit while maximizing the overall capacity of the fiber system. In addition, the technology provides stable connectivity between major regions and hyperscale data centers.
Technical Capabilities of Super C+L Technology
The integration of the Super C+L spectrum expands the utilization of the fiber spectrum by 100 percent. As a result, the network can handle long-distance, high-speed transport between key Saudi cities. Furthermore, this setup ensures reliable interconnectivity for cloud service providers and enterprise applications.
Enhancing Mobile Backhaul and Cloud Infrastructure
The fiber transport network is designed to manage high-capacity backhaul traffic from mobile sites to the core network. This improvement helps 5G users by providing low latency and high reliability. Zain KSA Chief Technology Officer, Eng. Mohammad Abdulaziz AlNujaidi, stated that the launch of the network is a milestone in preparing the digital infrastructure for future demands. He added that the technology improves the digital environment by enabling mobile backhauling and high-speed data transport.
Gavin Gu, President of Huawei Optical Transmission Domain, stated that the achievement represents a step in building an optical backbone. He noted that the infrastructure supports the digital transformation goals of Saudi Vision 2030.
