Zong and ZTE have launched the first AI-based FDD Massive MIMO commercial deployment in Pakistan. The deployment took place in Islamabad on February 28, 2026. It uses automatic beam adaptation for five beams.
The solution employs ZTE’s AIREngine board. This board enables the FDD Massive MIMO to switch to multiple beams, up to six, based on traffic loading. As a result, it allocates resources efficiently and boosts cell capacity.

Zong conducted the initial commercial launch with ZTE. Five beams were activated during the trial. Moreover, the companies plan to expand to high-loading scenarios.
