Agentic AI network slicing is the focus of a new partnership between Nokia and Amazon Web Services, which have developed what they describe as the first agentic AI-powered 5G-Advanced network slicing offering, with telecom operators du and Orange preparing to demonstrate the technology at MWC26 Barcelona.

The agentic AI network slicing solution uses artificial intelligence to analyze real-world internet data including locations, events, traffic, incidents, and maps. This data processing enables operators to deploy adaptive network slicing that creates services capable of responding to changing network conditions.

Use Cases for Agentic AI Network Slicing

Nokia and AWS outlined three primary applications for the technology. The first involves intent-based enterprise and industry slicing, where the system measures live network key performance indicators and automatically adjusts Radio Access Network policies to meet enterprise service level agreements across campuses, business areas, and city zones.

On-demand slicing represents the second use case, where agentic AI improves network performance for selected 5G base stations. This benefits 5G-Advanced and Fixed Wireless Access customers using gaming, streaming, and artificial intelligence applications.

Mass event management forms the third application, where AI analyzes network data and patterns to set slicing policies during large gatherings.

How Agentic AI Network Slicing Works

Nokia’s AI slicing technology uses agentic AI to process network conditions and respond to them automatically. The system combines Nokia’s network slicing capabilities with AWS computing resources to enable real-time policy adjustments without manual intervention.

Pallavi Mahajan, chief technology and AI officer at Nokia, said the technology represents progress in building networks with artificial intelligence at their core. She stated: “By combining Nokia’s advanced network slicing capabilities with agentic AI, we are enabling operators to deliver premium, intent-based services that adapt dynamically to real-world conditions.”

Operator Demonstrations at MWC26

Orange and du will be among the first operators to showcase the agentic AI network slicing offering on their networks at the Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona.

Atoosa Hatefi, director of innovation in radio and environment at Orange, said intent-based slicing will help the operator anticipate customer needs. Saleem Alblooshi, chief technology officer at du, noted that agentic AI-powered offerings will allow the operator to deliver premium services across critical enterprise applications and enhance consumer experiences.

The agentic AI network slicing technology addresses a core challenge in telecommunications infrastructure: managing network resources dynamically as user demand and applications change. By automating this process through artificial intelligence, operators gain the ability to guarantee service levels while optimizing network utilization.
