AI in Saudi Arabia has reached a decisive tipping point as financial institutions transition from experimentation to full-scale execution, according to new research from Finastra, a global leader in financial services software. The shift marks a transformative moment for the Kingdom’s banking sector, with nearly universal adoption of artificial intelligence across core operations.
Released on February 10, 2026, the Finastra Financial Services State of the Nation 2026 report reveals that just 1% of financial institutions in Saudi Arabia report no use or plans to use artificial intelligence. This compares to 2% globally, signaling that AI in Saudi Arabia has moved beyond pilot programs into strategic implementation across banking, payments, lending, and compliance functions.
Universal AI Adoption Drives Competitive Advantage
The research surveyed senior professionals at financial institutions across 11 global markets, including France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, the UAE, UK, the U.S., and Vietnam. Nearly all Saudi financial institutions now leverage AI technology, with 46% citing improved accuracy and error reduction as their primary objective.
Notably, Saudi Arabia ranks highest globally in viewing AI as a competitive advantage lever, with 41% of institutions framing it as a tool to leapfrog peers through digital transformation. This ambitious positioning reflects the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 commitment to technological leadership in the region.
Modernization and Security Investment Surge
Modernization has emerged as a top priority, with 87% of respondents both globally and in Saudi Arabia planning investments over the next 12 months. These initiatives aim to scale AI capabilities, strengthen operational resilience, and deliver more reliable customer experiences. Nearly half (45%) of Saudi institutions are pursuing partnerships with fintech providers as their default modernization approach.
Security investment is expected to rise sharply, with global financial institutions projecting an average 40% increase in 2026. This surge responds to escalating cyber threats, tighter regulatory scrutiny, and growing dependence on digital platforms across core banking operations.
Customer Experience Takes Center Stage
Saudi financial institutions rank highly compared to global peers in providing personalized recommendations. Investment in customer experience and personalization is set to increase significantly, with 93% of Saudi institutions expecting to boost spending in this area during the coming year. This focus reflects how service quality and trust have become central to competitive positioning in the digital banking era.
Cloud adoption underpins this transformation, with 58% of Saudi respondents hosting most of their software stack on cloud solutions. Cloud infrastructure enables lower costs, increased scalability, and faster innovation while supporting personalization and compliance requirements.
Industry Confidence Remains Strong Despite Disruption
Despite ongoing market disruption, optimism in Saudi Arabia’s financial sector remains exceptionally high. An impressive 95% of respondents express strong optimism about future opportunities at a personal level, compared to 87% globally. Similarly, 92% are optimistic about their institutions’ outlook as technology and operating models continue to evolve, versus 86% worldwide.
“Technology decisions now sit at the center of trust, resilience, and customer experience. Institutions in Saudi Arabia are moving decisively beyond experimentation, focusing on responsible AI, modernization and security to deliver reliable, personalized financial services at scale.”
Chris Walters, CEO of Finastra
Walters added that Finastra looks forward to working closely with customers as strategic partners, helping them navigate the evolving landscape with modern, secure, and innovative software solutions.
Future Outlook for Digital Banking
The research indicates that Saudi Arabia’s financial sector is well-positioned to lead regional digital transformation. The combination of near-universal AI adoption, substantial modernization investments, and strong industry confidence creates a foundation for sustained innovation. As institutions move from testing to execution, the focus on responsible AI deployment, enhanced security, and superior customer experiences will likely define competitive success in the years ahead.
