Apple has officially unveiled the next generation of Apple Intelligence during its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC26). The update introduces Siri AI, a redesigned virtual assistant, alongside new parental controls and performance enhancements across its operating systems.
Next Generation of Apple Intelligence
The updated Apple Intelligence system powers Siri AI, allowing the assistant to understand on-screen content and perform actions across various applications. Users can now access a dedicated Siri app to view past conversations, which sync privately across devices using iCloud.
In addition to the assistant, the system introduces new tools in core applications. For instance, the Photos app now includes Spatial Reframing to adjust photo composition after capture, while the Image Playground tool allows users to generate photorealistic images.
New Parental Controls and Screen Time Tools
Apple introduced new parental controls to help families manage device usage. Parents can set up child accounts with age-appropriate protections and use Setup Assistant to select permitted apps and software.
The update also includes communication safety features that require parental approval for new contacts. Furthermore, parents can set daily time limits for entertainment, games, and social media apps based on recommendations from child development experts.
Performance and Design Enhancements
The upcoming software releases bring significant performance improvements to compatible mobile devices and computers. According to Apple, applications on iPhone and iPad will launch up to 30 percent faster, while photos will load up to 70 percent faster.
File transfers via AirDrop are now up to 80 percent faster, and external drive browsing on iPad is up to five times faster. Additionally, a new Liquid Glass slider in Settings allows users to adjust interface transparency from ultra-clear to fully tinted to match their personal preferences.
For other smart devices, Apple Watch receives a new dynamic app grid featuring five suggested applications. Meanwhile, AirPods users can access custom equalizer settings, and Apple Vision Pro users can convert panoramic photos into spatial environments alongside Wi-Fi connectivity that is up to three times faster.
Device Compatibility and Release Timeline
The new features will be available as a free software update this fall. The Apple Intelligence platform will support iPhone 16 models or later, iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and iPads or Macs equipped with M1 chips or later.
Developer testing begins today through the Apple Developer Program, with a public beta scheduled for next month. Notably, Siri AI will initially launch in English, with plans to expand to other languages, though it will not be available initially in the European Union for iOS and iPadOS, or in China due to regulatory requirements.
