Apple has introduced new developer tools, highlighting Xcode 27 coding capabilities alongside updated intelligence frameworks to assist developers in building apps. These updates introduce agentic programming features and expanded model integrations. Consequently, developers can now access multiple external models directly within their development environment.

The updated Foundation Models framework now operates as a single native Swift API. Specifically, this framework supports on-device models with image input, server-side models, and custom skills. Furthermore, Apple collaborated with Google to integrate Gemini models into these platforms.

Intelligence Frameworks and Core AI

To assist smaller businesses, Apple offers free access to its foundation models on Private Cloud Compute. This offer applies specifically to developers in the App Store Small Business Program with fewer than two million downloads. Meanwhile, developers can also integrate artificial intelligence models from other providers like Anthropic.

For local model execution, Apple introduced Core AI as a dedicated framework. This architecture is optimized specifically for the unified memory and Neural Engine of Apple silicon. As a result, developers can run large language models locally on Apple devices.

Xcode 27 coding and Agentic Features

The integration of agentic systems within Xcode 27 coding workflows allows developers to interact with models from Anthropic, Google, and OpenAI. These agents can perform multi-turn questions and answers, interactive planning, and code previews. Additionally, the software is now restricted to Apple silicon and is 30 percent smaller in size.

The new Device Hub allows developers to manage physical devices and resize simulators in a single workspace. Moreover, Xcode Cloud now operates up to two times faster. Notably, it adds support for builds using Metal and visionOS.

Refined Design and UI Frameworks

Apple also updated its user interface frameworks, introducing a design system called Liquid Glass. This system includes a transparency slider in Settings to let users adjust visual density. Furthermore, SwiftUI has been updated to render layouts faster and initialize states more efficiently.

Swift 6.4 introduces targeted warning suppression and simplified availability attributes. Specifically, the update includes the “anyAppleOS” attribute to simplify multi-platform code. Consequently, everyday programming tasks require less manual configuration.

Game Development Tools and Availability

New resources are available for game and spatial developers. For instance, Managed Background Assets now automatically identify a player’s language to download only the necessary assets. In addition, Game Porting Toolkit 4 provides open-source skills to accelerate Metal development.

Developers can begin testing Xcode 27 coding features through the developer beta versions released today. These betas cover iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, tvOS 27, and visionOS 27. However, Apple Intelligence features remain restricted to supported regions.
