Claude Code workflows are now available in a research preview to help developers manage complex programming tasks through dynamic automation.
The system operates by writing an orchestration script on the fly. Consequently, it spins up a fleet of coordinated subagents in parallel to execute tasks that exceed a single agent loop.
Users can initiate this feature by using the word workflow in a prompt. Furthermore, these Claude Code workflows can be saved as slash commands in a project directory for team sharing or in a home directory for general use.
Managing Complex Tasks with Claude Code Workflows
Specifically, the update introduces a new effort level called ultracode. Developers can set this parameter to run at an extra-high level, which allows the system to decide when a task requires a dynamic workflow.
Notably, these workflows are designed for large-scale operations. These include service-wide bug hunts, large migrations, and stress-testing system designs.
Resource Consumption and Plan Availability
However, the company stated that these Claude Code workflows can consume a high volume of tokens quickly. As a result, developers are advised to start with scoped tasks to monitor resource usage.
Meanwhile, the feature is available on Max, Team, and Enterprise plans, as well as via the API. This includes integrations with Amazon Bedrock, Google Vertex AI, and Salesforce Foundry.
Administrative Controls and Documentation
The feature is enabled by default for Max and Team plans. In contrast, Enterprise administrators must manually opt in through their managed settings.
In addition, official documentation has been published to guide users through the setup process. This update represents a shift toward multi-agent coordination in development environments.
