The Digital Cooperation Organization (DCO) has launched a global campaign targeting online misinformation, calling on governments, media outlets, the private sector, and digital platforms to take coordinated action. The campaign, titled “Stop Online Misinformation: Ctrl+Alt+Delete,” aims to strengthen trust in the digital economy through phased implementation and multilateral stakeholder engagement.
Campaign Background and Online Misinformation Context
The campaign represents the culmination of one year of sustained multilateral engagement led by the DCO. It builds on the organization’s Online Content Integrity initiative and will roll out in phased stages. Implementation relies on stakeholder pledges, policy dialogue, public engagement, and digital activation.
The DCO framed online misinformation as a growing economic, societal, and trust-related challenge. The organization said the campaign addresses the issue through coordinated cross-sector action rather than unilateral measures.
Launch at the DCO General Assembly in Kuwait
The campaign launched on the sidelines of the 5th General Assembly of the DCO, held in Kuwait. A high-level ministerial panel discussion on combating online misinformation accompanied the launch. The panel drew ministers from the Ministerial Committee on Online Misinformation, chaired by the State of Kuwait.
Participating ministers included H.E. Ms. Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni, Minister Delegate to the Head of Government in charge of Digital Transition and Administration Reform of Morocco. H.E. Eng. Sami Issa Smeirat, Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship of Jordan, and H.E. Ms. Shiza Fatima Khawaja, Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunications of Pakistan also participated. The discussion highlighted a growing cross-cultural consensus on the need for coordinated action.
Secretary-General Statement on Digital Trust
DCO Secretary-General Ms. Deemah AlYahya addressed the scale of the challenge facing the digital economy.
“Online misinformation has evolved into a digital pandemic, spreading faster than facts, eroding public trust, and undermining the foundations of the digital economy. Left unchecked, it weakens institutions, deepens polarization, and imposes real economic and social costs on societies worldwide.”
Ms. Deemah AlYahya, Secretary-General, Digital Cooperation Organization
“Trust is the currency of the digital economy. Safeguarding online content integrity through this campaign is not only about countering falsehoods, it is about protecting openness, strengthening resilience, and ensuring the digital future delivers prosperity for all.”
Ms. Deemah AlYahya, Secretary-General, Digital Cooperation Organization
Campaign Structure and Stakeholder Pledges
The “Ctrl+Alt+Delete” campaign operates through a pledge-based model, inviting governments, organizations, and individuals to formally commit to combating online misinformation. Stakeholders can register their support at the campaign’s dedicated portal at ctrl-alt-del.dco.org.
The campaign will advance through policy dialogue, public engagement initiatives, and coordinated digital activation across participating member states. The DCO said the phased rollout allows for progressive expansion of commitments over time.
Broader Mission and Future Outlook
The DCO stated the campaign reflects its broader mission to enable digital cooperation that improves lives, supports economic growth, and strengthens resilience in the digital economy. The organization operates from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and counts multiple governments among its members.
As online misinformation continues to affect public discourse and economic activity globally, the DCO said it expects the campaign to generate measurable stakeholder commitments in the months ahead. The organization plans to track progress through its Online Content Integrity initiative framework.
