The company released findings from its Enterprise Physical Security in the Cloud Era research on May 13, 2026, highlighting the risks posed by AI-driven credential attacks.
AI tools are increasing the speed, scale, and precision of credential-based attacks. For organizations managing connected cameras, access control systems, servers, and cloud services, weak or poorly managed credentials create direct entry points for attackers. Device passwords, often overlooked in security planning, can provide a direct pathway into organizations if not properly secured.
Research Findings on Credential and Physical Security Threats
The Genetec research surveyed over 7,300 physical security professionals worldwide and found significant credential and cyber incidents. According to the findings, 58.7% of organizations have experienced an increase in phishing and smishing attacks, while 41% reported a rise in overall physical or cyber incidents. Social engineering was identified by 43.5% of respondents as a leading attack vector against their organizations.
Firas Jadalla, Regional Director for Middle East, Turkey and Africa at Genetec, stated that attackers are using AI to impersonate people, tailor social engineering attacks, uncover vulnerabilities at scale, and evade detection. He noted that periodic password changes and basic cyber hygiene measures are no longer sufficient in this environment.

The strategy includes three core elements: strengthening identity and credential controls, improving alignment between IT and physical security teams, and adopting governance-first management of physical security infrastructure.

The company recommends enforcing strong authentication methods such as passkeys and implementing multi-factor authentication (MFA) to reduce common attack entry points. For devices specifically, this includes replacing static passwords with certificate-based authentication where possible and ensuring centralized management with regular credential rotation.
Alignment Between IT and Physical Security Teams
Closer collaboration between IT and physical security teams helps apply consistent security standards and improves visibility into access risks. As physical security systems become more connected to enterprise networks, cross-functional alignment enables organizations to identify weak points and respond more effectively to credential-based attacks.
