The new Golf Saudi pathway connects sports development in the United Kingdom directly to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. During the recent PIF London Championship at the Centurion Club, the sports organization partnered with the Muslim Golf Association. Consequently, this collaboration introduced 280 girls and women to the sport of golf over a two-day period.
Introducing the Golf Saudi pathway in London
The initiative aims to expand access to the sport internationally. Specifically, the Golf Saudi pathway starts with introductory sessions in British communities and extends to international tournament finals. Organizers designed the event to remove traditional entry barriers for female participants from diverse backgrounds.
First day activities for young participants
On the first day, 100 young girls from various inner-city communities across the United Kingdom arrived at the championship. They participated in the Go Golf training program. Here, they practiced hitting their first golf shots. Furthermore, the participants attended discussions with Ladies European Tour performance professionals, medical doctors, and athletic coaches.
Many of these young women previously attended a month-long beginners’ course. Organized by the Muslim Golf Association, this initial training took place at the Iqra Academy in Peterborough during the previous summer. Meanwhile, because the academy lacked its own green space, organizers held the final practice sessions in a public park.
Second day events and the Race to Makkah
The second day of the event welcomed 180 women. These participants traveled from cities including Bradford, Portsmouth, and Barking. They completed a guided walk of the tournament course and engaged in practical golf activities. Additionally, representatives introduced them to the Race to Makkah, which serves as a global championship for the Muslim golfing community.
Every attendee received an invitation to the Race to Makkah World Final. This final event takes place at the Royal Greens Golf and Country Club in King Abdullah Economic City. Notably, located on the Red Sea coast, the tournament combines a professional sports competition with the opportunity for families to perform Umrah.
Future outlook for the sports initiative
The Golf Saudi pathway continues to build sports infrastructure and training programs to increase global participation. Under the leadership of Chief Executive Officer Noah Alireza, who has led the organization since January 2023, the group focuses on grassroots development. Moreover, by linking local training with international events, the organization establishes long-term athletic opportunities.
Ultimately, the partnership with the Muslim Golf Association highlights a shared commitment to community sports. Through structured training and international travel opportunities, the program helps participants transition from beginners to tournament spectators. This systematic approach ensures that golf becomes more accessible to diverse populations worldwide.
