Google acquires Wiz, the cloud security company, marking the official close of a deal that was first disclosed nearly a year ago. Wiz stated that it now operates as a Google company, with its platform continuing to serve customers across multiple cloud environments including AWS, Azure, GCP, and OCI.
Google Acquires Wiz to Strengthen Cloud Security
The acquisition brings Wiz’s cybersecurity capabilities under Google’s umbrella. Wiz said the combination is intended to improve security for organizations building on cloud infrastructure, particularly as generative AI applications move from development to production at increasing speed.
Key Research Milestones in the Past Year
During the acquisition process, Wiz Research continued to identify critical vulnerabilities. The team discovered RediShell, a 13-year-old remote code execution flaw in Redis with a CVSS score of 10.0, which affected over 75% of cloud environments. Researchers also found NVIDIAScape, a container escape vulnerability that threatened shared artificial intelligence infrastructure.
Additional findings included CodeBreach, a supply chain vulnerability that could have compromised the AWS Console, and an exposed database in Moltbook — a social network for AI agents — that leaked millions of API keys. Wiz also collaborated with Lovable, a vibe coding platform, and found that 1 in 5 organizations using AI-generated applications face systemic security risks.
Platform Expansion: AI Security and Exposure Management
Over the past year, Wiz expanded its platform to address security for AI applications specifically. The company introduced Wiz Exposure Management, which unifies vulnerability and attack surface management from code to cloud to on-premises environments. The tool gives security teams a single, proactive view of risk.
Wiz also launched AI Security Agents, designed to help teams investigate, prioritize, and remediate risk at machine speed. Furthermore, the company released WizOS, a set of hardened container base images with near-zero CVEs, intended to give development teams a secure foundation from the first commit. These additions reflect the company’s focus on cloud-native software security at scale.
Multi-Cloud Commitment and Google Integration
Wiz stated that joining Google does not change its multi-cloud strategy. The platform currently serves most of the Fortune 100 and most frontier AI labs, in addition to many cloud-native companies. Wiz said it will continue to protect workloads across all major cloud providers.
The company said it plans to integrate with Google’s Gemini AI model and the broader Google Unified Security Platform. Wiz also noted that access to Mandiant’s threat intelligence and Google’s infrastructure will strengthen its ability to protect customers. Future Outlook
As part of Google, Wiz said it intends to accelerate its product roadmap. The company hosted ZeroDay.cloud, a hacking competition where researchers uncovered a record number of CVEs in cloud and AI tools. Wiz said this reflects its commitment to securing open-source and multicloud infrastructure. With Google’s resources, the company said it expects to expand its capabilities in cybersecurity research and product development at a faster pace.
