Google has launched a new Video Remix feature for its artificial intelligence subscribers to edit and transform videos directly within Google Photos.
According to a report by TechCrunch, the tool allows users to modify saved video clips in seconds using simple text prompts.
How the Video Remix feature Works
The tool is located in the “Create” tab of the Google Photos application. Users can select from a library of templates or enter custom prompts to apply edits. Specifically, the tool can apply cinematic relighting to brighten dark clips, swap plain backgrounds for new environments, or apply artistic filters. These filters include watercolor, raw sketchbook, and oil painting effects. For example, a user can edit a video to make it appear as if it was filmed inside a greenhouse or add a morning glow to a dark scene.
Capabilities of Gemini Omni
The new tool is powered by Gemini Omni, which is Google’s recently released multimodal model. This model accepts a wide range of inputs and understands physical forces like gravity and kinetic energy to make edited scenes appear realistic. Furthermore, the model allows users to insert themselves into videos using a custom digital avatar, which is watermarked by Google’s SynthID tool. This model serves as a successor to previous video generation technologies from the company.
“Creating beautiful video clips shouldn’t require professional skills or hours of editing. Now, with Video Remix in Google Photos, you can transform ordinary videos into share-worthy moments in just a few taps.”

Availability and Supported Regions
The Video Remix feature is rolling out to eligible Google AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra subscribers. The initial rollout includes users in the United States, Argentina, Bangladesh, Brazil, Colombia, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, Pakistan, Philippines, South Korea, and Turkey.
Recent Updates to Google Photos
This release follows several other artificial intelligence updates to the application. Google recently added touch-up tools to remove blemishes, refine skin texture, and brighten eyes. Additionally, the company introduced a digital closet feature that turns photos of clothing into a virtual try-on experience.
Market Context and Competition
The launch represents Google’s ongoing effort to integrate generative artificial intelligence tools into its consumer applications. The company is actively competing with other technology firms, including Apple, OpenAI, and Adobe, to provide accessible editing tools. By integrating these capabilities directly into Google Photos, the company reduces the need for users to rely on dedicated third-party editing software.
