The new Hyundai ID card case has won the 2026 Red Dot Award in the Product Design category. Hyundai Motor Company announced the design selection on May 22, 2026. Consequently, this accessory represents a shift in how the company approaches everyday workplace items for its staff. The award highlights the company’s focus on user-centered design across all corporate levels.
The Red Dot Award is an international design competition that evaluates entries across three distinct categories. Specifically, these categories include Product Design, Brand and Communication Design, and Design Concept. Meanwhile, the company developed this accessory to improve daily convenience for its employees. It aims to replace traditional, rigid office accessories with flexible alternatives.
Design Features of the Hyundai ID Card Case
The Hyundai ID card case features a modular structure that allows users to customize how they carry their identification. For example, employees can choose between a traditional neck strap and a direct magnetic attachment. Furthermore, the design includes interchangeable accessories such as ring-type reel holders, jacquard straps, and bead straps. These options allow employees to express personal style while maintaining security protocols.
Integration of MagSafe Technology
The integration of MagSafe compatibility allows the card holder to attach securely to compatible smartphones. As a result, users can detach the traditional lanyard-style neck strap when it is not needed. This magnetic system provides a secure connection that prevents the card from slipping off. Notably, this feature connects the accessory directly to the broader smart devices market. It offers a practical solution for employees who carry multiple devices daily.
Award Recognition and Materials
The Hyundai ID card case is available in two colors, which are white and clear blue. Additionally, the slim body is built with replaceable modules to reduce physical discomfort and prevent long-term damage. This modularity ensures that employees do not need to replace the entire unit if one part breaks. Consequently, the design also secured the iF Design Award alongside the Red Dot recognition. This dual recognition emphasizes the practical utility of the product.
Future Workplace Accessories
Hyundai Motor Company plans to distribute the accessory through its official merchandise store, the Hyundai Collection. This release aligns with the company’s broader efforts in automotive design and smart mobility solutions. Meanwhile, the company continues to invest in advanced technologies like robotics and advanced air mobility. Therefore, even small workplace tools reflect the design principles used in their larger transport systems.
