iOS 27 Camera customizable features will allow Apple Inc. to upgrade its Camera app, making the software fully customizable as part of a broader set of user interface changes coming in iOS 27, the next major iPhone software update.
The iOS 27 Camera customizable interface will let users choose which features appear in the app and where they are placed. That includes controls for flash, exposure, the timer and resolution. In addition to offering a more personalized experience, the changes are designed to appeal to professional users who need more granular control over camera settings.
iOS 27 Camera Customization Details
Users will be able to pick their own set of controls, called widgets, that run along the top of the Camera app interface. The app will continue to launch with the same default set as today, including toggles for resolution, night mode, flash and live photos. However, users will be able to switch over to an “advanced” array of options or choose their own items based on their needs.
Each capture mode has its own set of widgets that can be picked from a transparent “Add Widgets” tray that slides up from the bottom of the app. The Photo mode’s advanced options tray includes depth-of-field and exposure controls, while the widgets are split into categories of “basic,” “manual” and “settings.” Users can also swap in controls for the timer and photo styles.
Apple has moved the toggle that lets users see all available controls from the top right of the Camera app interface to a new spot on the right side of the shutter button. The updated Camera app also includes a new Siri mode alongside photo, video and other options, letting users tap into Visual Intelligence capabilities to identify plants or translate text.
Siri Rebuilt as Always-On Agent
Siri will be completely rebuilt in iOS 27, moving away from being a voice assistant and becoming an always-on agent that can tap into personal data and take action across apps. The assistant is being redesigned to conduct back-and-forth conversations with a chatbot interface, matching the look of ChatGPT, Gemini and other applications.
Siri will now be located in the Dynamic Island interface, the on-screen element that Apple first added in 2022. When a user says the Siri wake word or holds down the power button to activate the assistant, a large, roughly pill-shaped Siri animation appears at the top center of the iPhone interface. Users can swipe a transparent results card down to enter into a chatbot conversation mode, which looks similar to a text message thread with inline mini app cards showing weather, appointments and notes.
A new “Search or Ask” system can be activated by swiping down from the top center of the screen. This interface looks similar to Spotlight Search on an iPhone today but can show more advanced results and additional data from within apps. Users can press the search bar to toggle between using Siri or third-party offerings like ChatGPT or Gemini as their search engine. The bar also has a microphone icon on the right side for voice mode.
Siri will have a standalone app for the first time. The main page includes a grid of tall, round rectangles that summarize prior Siri conversations, allowing users to jump in to continue their chats. There is also a search bar to locate past results and a plus button to begin a new chat. Inside the Siri app and chatbot view, the bottom has a plus button for uploading images and documents.
Additional iOS 27 Interface Changes
Beyond Camera and Siri, iOS 27 includes noticeable design changes across several areas. Safari, the web browser, is gaining a new start page with four tabs across the top to move between favorites, bookmarks, a reading list of saved articles and browsing history. The Weather app is getting slight design changes, including a new “Conditions” panel on the main page that allows users to tab between data points beyond temperature, including rain and wind information.
Image Playground, the app used for generating images, has been completely redesigned. Previously created images on the main page grid now have more rounded edges, while the “New Image” button has been replaced by a simpler plus icon. The interface for generated images now has a simplified look centered in a large, rounded square with fewer controls and a new “describe a change” option to edit an image that was just created.
System-wide changes include tweaking the tab bar across the bottom of several apps to combine the search tab with the rest of an app’s tabs. This change will affect the Podcasts, TV, Music, Health and News apps. When a user activates the on-screen keyboard, a new animation will show the keys sliding up from the bottom of the iPhone interface. There are also new redo and undo controls when customizing the home screen.
Apple WWDC 2026 Announcement Date
Apple is set to unveil iOS 27 and the revamped Siri, along with other updated operating systems, on June 8 at its Worldwide Developers Conference. The interface changes are meant to align with the Liquid Glass design language, which was introduced in the previous year. An Apple spokesperson declined to comment on the upcoming announcements.
The updates come as artificial intelligence features continue to shape mobile operating system development. Google recently announced Android 17 and Gemini Intelligence, adding features like creating home screen widgets with AI and a new Rambler dictation mode that filters out common filler words.
