LG smart telematics technology took center stage at Mobile World Congress (MWC) Barcelona 2026, as LG Electronics unveiled a solution that integrates a telematics control unit (TCU) and an antenna into a single module. The event ran from March 2-5 in Barcelona, Spain.
The debut marked the first participation of LG’s Vehicle Solution Company at MWC. Moreover, it arrives as the automotive industry transitions from software-defined vehicles (SDVs) to AI-defined vehicles (AIDVs), a shift that places in-vehicle communications at the center of future mobility competition.
LG Smart Telematics: An Integrated Architecture
The new module combines an antenna capable of receiving 5G, GPS, vehicle-to-everything (V2X), and satellite signals with a TCU that processes and transmits data to in-vehicle systems. Consolidating these previously separate components reduces signal loss at connection points and enables faster, more stable data processing.
Developed entirely in-house, the solution features a reduced module size, enhanced signal-processing algorithms, and upgraded software capabilities. In addition, the simplified architecture reduces wiring complexity and improves vehicle assembly efficiency. The removal of the traditional shark-fin antenna allows for cleaner vehicle exterior designs.
Market Position and Global Share
According to estimates based on data from independent research firm TechInsights, LG held the top position in the worldwide telematics market in 2025 with a 23 percent share. The company attributes this position to its end-to-end design capabilities across network access devices, antennas, and overall system architecture.
LG hosted a private exhibition space at MWC exclusively for automakers and other B2B customers. The company used the showcase to present its vehicle communications solutions and explore new business opportunities in the connected mobility sector.
Cybersecurity and Regulatory Compliance
The integrated module meets leading international standards for cybersecurity and regulatory compliance. LG also previously partnered with Saint-Gobain Sekurit, a global automotive glass manufacturer, to introduce transparent film-type antennas — both on-glass and in-glass — applicable across various vehicle models.
AlphaWare Software Suite and AIDV Transition
LG is expanding its LG AlphaWare in-vehicle software suite to support the transition from SDVs to AIDVs. AlphaWare includes three components: PlayWare for in-vehicle entertainment, MetaWare which uses AR, MR, and artificial intelligence for context-aware cabin experiences, and VisionWare which applies ADAS algorithms and camera sensors to analyze driver and passenger behavior for accident prevention.
LG was also the first company to apply its Automotive Content Platform (ACP) to commercial electric vehicles, further extending its presence across the connected vehicle ecosystem.
“In-vehicle connectivity has become a core pillar of mobility competitiveness. Building on our world-leading telematics capabilities, LG will continue to deliver solutions that go beyond the SDV paradigm and lead the industry into the AIDV era.”
Eun Seok-hyun, President, LG Vehicle Solution Company
Future Outlook
LG stated it will continue strengthening strategic collaborations with global automakers and telecommunications companies as demand for AIDV-ready connectivity solutions grows. The company’s Vehicle Solution Company portfolio spans head units, displays, connectivity modules, ADAS vision systems, automotive lighting, e-powertrain, and cybersecurity solutions.
