Livebox 7, the first commercial optical network terminal built on the prplOS 4.0 open-source standard, launched officially on March 11, 2026, as ZTE Corporation and Orange Morocco introduced the device at an event in Barcelona, Spain.
ZTE developed and manufactured the terminal exclusively using its own core research and development technologies. Moreover, the device holds a second distinction as the first prpl commercial terminal to support a third-party multi-service ecology, enabling households in Morocco to access a broad range of smart home services through a single gateway.
Livebox 7 Hardware Specifications
The terminal ships with 1 GB of memory and ten smart antennas. It supports tri-band Wi-Fi 7, which ZTE said delivers a whole-home wireless connection experience. The hardware configuration targets flagship-tier performance for residential broadband users.
Security, Parental Controls, and Energy Efficiency
Livebox 7 includes enterprise-grade security protection with a built-in VPN to safeguard user privacy. In addition, the device features enhanced parental controls for internet management. An intelligent energy-saving design supports low-carbon operation, ZTE stated.
Open Ecosystem and Third-Party Application Support
The terminal supports compatibility with third-party applications, building an open home digital ecosystem. This positions Livebox 7 within the broader trend of open-platform telecommunications hardware. Consequently, operators and developers can extend services beyond the default feature set.
The device’s exterior draws design inspiration from traditional Moroccan Zellige tiles. ZTE said the aesthetic approach blends technology with North African cultural references, targeting visual differentiation in the consumer market.
ZTE’s Global Home Terminal Position
ZTE reported that its home terminal shipments surpassed 100 million units for two consecutive years. Furthermore, the company said it ranked first globally in home terminal shipments for five consecutive years. ZTE stated it will continue collaborating with operator partners to develop next-generation smart home solutions.
