The Lucid Midsize platform took center stage at the company’s Investor Day event in New York on March 13, 2026, as Lucid Group (Nasdaq: LCID) outlined a comprehensive strategy to expand operations, accelerate profitability, and generate positive free cash flow.
The company introduced two new vehicle models built on the platform: Lucid Cosmos, a performance-focused SUV targeting efficiency and space, and Lucid Earth, an SUV designed for drivers who prioritize dynamic handling. A third consumer model from the Midsize platform will be detailed at a later date. Starting prices for Midsize vehicles will begin below $50,000.
Lucid Midsize Platform: Technical Architecture and Cost Strategy
The Lucid Midsize platform centers on a new electric drive unit called Atlas. The unit features a smaller, lighter, and simpler design with identical front and rear modules to improve manufacturing scale and cost efficiency. Lucid said batteries represent approximately 30 to 40 percent of a typical electric vehicle‘s cost, making efficiency a structural business advantage rather than a consumer benefit alone.
Imad Dlala, Senior Vice President of Powertrain and Motion Systems at Lucid, said the platform converts efficiency leadership directly into a cost competitive advantage. “Smaller batteries, fewer parts, and greater integration means lower cost, better performance, and a superior customer experience — all at the same time,” Dlala stated.
Uber Partnership and Robotaxi Deployment Plans
Lucid said it is finalizing an agreement with Uber to deploy Midsize platform vehicles at a scale comparable to the existing Gravity robotaxi program, with plans to expand that deployment gradually. The company also unveiled Lunar, a purpose-built two-seat robotaxi concept based on the Midsize platform. Lunar remains in an early stage but demonstrates the platform’s potential for autonomous vehicle applications and commercial use cases.
“Lucid is a key strategic partner as we continue to rapidly scale autonomous vehicle deployment globally. Lucid’s efficiency, its AV-ready vehicle architecture, and its customer-first approach give us great confidence in our ability to deliver autonomous mobility at global scale together.”
Dara Khosrowshahi, CEO, Uber
Software, AI, and Recurring Revenue Streams
Lucid presented a roadmap for software and technology updates, including an in-vehicle artificial intelligence assistant and an autonomous driving technology development plan. The company stated its strategy targets revenue generation from software, services, platform licensing, robotaxi partnerships, and autonomous driving technologies as the business scales.
Taoufiq Boussaid, Chief Financial Officer at Lucid, said the Midsize platform contributes meaningfully to per-vehicle economics over the medium term. “Near-term progress is driven by scaling Gravity vehicles, disciplined capital deployment, and revenue source diversification, which accelerates our path to sustainable profitability and positive free cash flow,” Boussaid stated.
Near-Term Execution and Capital Discipline
For 2026, Lucid said it will focus on scaling the Lucid Gravity program, expanding its global commercial presence, developing software and services offerings, and accelerating cost efficiency initiatives in manufacturing. The company emphasized strict capital allocation discipline as a core element of its path to positive free cash flow.
“Lucid has already proven its capabilities through technology and product leadership. Today we are maintaining the core of Lucid’s identity in product and technology innovation, while adding operational scale, capital efficiency, cost discipline, and meaningful expense reductions, enabling us to build a strong business model with a clear and credible path to profitability and positive free cash flow.”
Marc Winterhoff, Interim CEO, Lucid Group
Derek Jenkins, Senior Vice President of Design and Brand at Lucid, said the Midsize platform was designed to enable scalable manufacturing without compromising the company’s design identity. “These vehicles combine Lucid’s distinctive design language and driving experience with a simpler, more efficient manufacturing approach that reduces costs and enhances value,” Jenkins stated.
Future Outlook
Lucid said the Midsize platform, combined with the Atlas drive unit and its software revenue strategy, positions the company to compete with and surpass internal combustion engine vehicles at scale. The company plans to share additional details on the third Midsize consumer model at a future date, as it continues to advance discussions with capital and technology partners across the robotaxi and platform licensing segments.
