Nissan Formula E Berlin achieved a strong performance at the double-header, with Oliver Rowland claiming podium finishes in both Round 7 and Round 8 of the 2025/26 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship at Tempelhof Airport Street Circuit on May 5, 2026. Teammate Norman Nato finished fifth in Sunday’s race after picking up 18th place on Saturday.
In Formula E’s first race on Saturday, Rowland advanced through qualifying’s semi-final stage and started third on the grid. Nato missed the top four by marginally over two-tenths of a second, lining up 20th. Rowland maintained his pace throughout the race, taking the lead before his Pit Boost stop at the end of lap 25. He finished third, earning his fourth podium in seven races this season. Nato activated Attack Mode early after his Pit Boost stop but ultimately crossed the line in 18th.
Sunday’s Bold Strategy Pays Off
For Round 8 on Sunday, the team employed a bold qualifying strategy, opting not to use fresh tires in qualifying to preserve them for the race. This approach allowed both drivers to conserve energy in the opening laps and position themselves for a strong charge through the field later in the race. Rowland and Nato started 18th and 16th respectively, moving into the front pack as the race reached midway through.
Both drivers spent time in the lead position before taking their final Attack Mode activations in the closing stages. Rowland pushed hard in the final laps, finishing second and securing the bonus point for the fastest lap. Nato was mounting a strong charge before a late Full Course Yellow prevented him from further advancing, resulting in a fifth-place finish. “It’s not easy to put two cars in the top five in Formula E this season, so this result is a huge positive,” Nato said.
Nissan Formula E Team’s Championship Standing
Rowland won the 2024/25 Drivers’ World Championship with seven podiums, including four victories, and three pole positions. He took the title with two races remaining. For the 2025/26 season, the Nissan Formula E Team fields Rowland and Nato as its driver pair competing against other global manufacturers in the all-electric racing series.
Nissan’s Long-Term Formula E Commitment
Nissan made its all-electric racing debut in Season 5 of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship in 2018/19, becoming the first and only Japanese manufacturer to enter the series. The company acquired the e.dams race team in April 2022, taking full ownership of its involvement in the championship. In March 2024, ahead of the first Tokyo E-Prix, Nissan announced its long-term commitment to Formula E through the GEN4 era, which runs until 2030, reinforcing its electrification targets.
The series returns to action in two weeks when Formula E travels to Monaco for a double-header from May 15 to 17. The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship became the first global sport certified with a net zero carbon footprint from its inception in 2020, having invested in climate-protecting projects across all race markets to offset emissions from each season.
