Nissan Formula E Team driver Oliver Rowland completed his first test of the new Formula E GEN4 car. The test took place as the championship prepares for the transition to the next generation of electric racing. Consequently, this transition will begin in Season 13.
The new vehicle features significant technical upgrades compared to the current GEN3 models. Specifically, race power will increase from 300kW to 450kW. Furthermore, drivers will have access to 600kW of power while in Attack Mode.
Active All-Wheel Drive has been integrated to provide more grip and higher cornering speeds. Meanwhile, these changes represent a substantial shift in the technical framework of the racing series.

The upgraded chassis improves driver comfort. Additionally, the front axle receives more power, which changes the acceleration dynamics. As a result, the vehicle accelerates much faster than its predecessor.

Rowland stated that the power of the Formula E GEN4 vehicle is highly noticeable. Specifically, he noted that the high downforce offers more grip. However, the introduction of power steering requires drivers to adapt their driving style to optimize performance.

Future Testing and Season Schedule
Development of the Formula E GEN4 vehicle will continue before the official pre-season testing in November 2026. Meanwhile, Rowland is preparing for the upcoming race in Sanya, China, scheduled for June 20, 2026. This event remains part of the current season.
Nissan entered the electric racing series in Season 5, becoming the first Japanese manufacturer in the championship. Later, the company acquired the e.dams team in April 2022 to manage its operations. Currently, the team is committed to the series until 2030.
