Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. announced its Nissan long-term vision on April 17, 2026, setting a customer-centric strategic direction centered on artificial intelligence and electrification technologies. The vision, titled “Mobility Intelligence for Everyday Life,” integrates mobility intelligence into daily routines through AI-Defined Vehicles (AIDV) and a range of electrification solutions tailored to diverse customer and market needs.
Ivan Espinosa, Nissan’s President and CEO, stated: “This is the right moment to articulate Nissan’s long-term vision as we look beyond the Re:Nissan plan and set a clear path for the future. Our vision defines where Nissan is headed, with customer experience as our guiding priority.” The company aims to deliver products and technologies that are safer, more intuitive, and more accessible, with outstanding value and a more rewarding overall experience.
Next-Generation Technologies: AI and Electrification
Artificial intelligence forms the foundation of Nissan’s technology strategy, enabling the development of AIDVs that combine Nissan AI Drive and Nissan AI Partner technologies. The company plans to deploy Nissan AI Drive across 90% of its lineup over the long term. Nissan’s e-POWER series hybrid technology extends electrification adoption, delivering electric-like driving characteristics and creating a natural transition path to fully electric vehicles.
Espinosa added: “As we continue on our path to recovery, it is essential that Nissan maintains its focus on serving customers, seizing the opportunities enabled by AI technologies, expanding electrification, and driving innovation into our vehicles to deliver sustainable market growth.” The company will offer a broader range of electrified powertrains to meet diverse customer needs across global markets.
Streamlined Product Portfolio and Industrial Model
Nissan is streamlining its global lineup to 45 models, reallocating investment toward growth opportunities while exiting low-performing models. The new strategic approach focuses on four key model categories: Heartbeat, Core, Growth, and Partner. Key models include the new X-Trail, Rogue Hybrid e-POWER, and Juke EV, alongside models like Xterra and Skyline. In the premium segment, INFINITI will introduce new and refreshed models, beginning with the all-new QX65 SUV in 2027.
The company is shifting from model-by-model optimization to architecture-led development built on shared vehicle platforms, powertrains, and software. Development will concentrate around three product families, which will account for more than 80% of global volume. This approach will increase volume per model by more than 30% while accelerating development speed and technology rollout.
Redefined Global Market Strategy
Nissan is evolving its global business strategy with redefined roles for three lead markets: Japan, the United States, and China. Japan serves as Nissan’s home market and proving ground for advanced technologies. From fiscal year 2028, Nissan will introduce a compact car series in Japan, targeting 550,000 units in annual sales by fiscal year 2030 while strengthening engagement with younger customers.
The United States is expected to provide stable returns and a foundation for sustained growth, with an ambition to return to one million units in annual sales by fiscal year 2030. China will serve as a source of development speed, cost efficiency, and global exports, with a similar target of one million units sold per year. Nissan continues to generate strong value from its presence in Mexico and the Middle East, where the region remains a priority growth and profit market driven by exports and a product mix aligned with customer demand in large SUVs and premium segments.
Re:Nissan Plan Progress and Future Updates
The Re:Nissan plan remains on track in its final year of execution, delivering a competitive cost base, improved capacity utilization, and strong new-product momentum that lays the groundwork for future growth. Nissan will provide a further update on Re:Nissan progress when it reports full-year results in May and will announce additional elements of the new strategic direction later in the year.
