The Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) announced the opening of registration for the AI Professional Badges on August 4, 2026.

This initiative, which was introduced earlier this year during the International Conference on Data and AI Capacity Building (ICAN 2026), aims to establish a national benchmark for evaluating specialists in advanced technologies.

The program provides a structured pathway for professionals to validate their expertise in key technical domains. By offering the AI Professional Badges, SDAIA seeks to build a reliable framework that helps public and private sector organizations identify highly qualified local talent. This initiative serves as a national reference for the development, regulation, and adoption of advanced computing systems.

Launch of the AI Professional Badges

The launch of this certification system represents a significant step in organizing the local technology sector. It ensures that practitioners meet rigorous scientific and practical standards that align with international best practices. Consequently, the program helps bridge the gap between academic knowledge and the practical demands of the modern technology market.

Specialized Tracks for Technical Roles

The current phase of the initiative focuses on two primary specializations that form the foundation of the data and computing sectors. The first track is the “AI Engineer” specialization, which evaluates practical skills in developing models and systems. Meanwhile, the second track is the “Data Scientist” specialization, which assesses algorithm development and analytical capabilities.

These two roles are critical for organizations looking to implement automated systems and data-driven decision-making processes. By separating these tracks, the program allows candidates to demonstrate specific competencies that match their professional experience and career goals.

Standardized Three-Level Assessment

Candidates who apply for the AI Professional Badges must undergo a standardized three-level assessment framework. An independent scientific committee, comprising researchers, academics, and experts from both the public and private sectors, supervises this evaluation process. This committee ensures an objective measurement of scientific competence, analytical abilities, and practical skills.

The multi-level structure of the assessment allows for a detailed evaluation of each candidate’s capabilities. As a result, successful applicants receive a credential that accurately reflects their technical proficiency and readiness to handle complex projects.

Supporting Saudi Vision 2030

This initiative aligns with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030 and the National Strategy for Data and AI. By establishing these professional standards, the Kingdom aims to strengthen its position as a global hub for technological innovation.
