Apple is testing a standalone Siri app for iPhone, iPad, and Mac as part of a broader artificial intelligence overhaul tied to iOS 27, according to people with knowledge of the matter. The Siri app iOS 27 update also introduces a new systemwide “Ask Siri” feature designed to work across Apple’s software platforms.
The updated Siri, internally code-named Campo, is designed to control features within iPhones and Macs more effectively. It will also tap into personal data — including messages, notes, and emails — to fulfill user requests.
Siri App iOS 27: What the New Interface Looks Like
The dedicated Siri app will display prior conversations in either a list or a grid of rounded rectangles with text previews. Users can pin favorite chats, save older conversations, search across interactions, and start new chats via a plus button.
The conversation view resembles a thread in Apple’s Messages app, with chat bubbles and a text entry field. It also includes a toggle for switching between voice and text mode, and an option to upload attachments such as documents and photos for analysis.
Redesigned Search Interface Replaces Spotlight
Apple is working to replace its existing on-device search system, Spotlight, with a unified Siri-powered interface. One design under testing places Siri within the Dynamic Island, the mini-interface Apple introduced in 2022, prompting users to “Search or Ask.”
When processing a request, a pill-shaped indicator labeled “Searching” appears alongside a glowing Siri icon. Once results are ready, the interface expands into a translucent panel using Apple’s Liquid Glass design. The updated search interface will also retain “Siri Suggestions” and leverage a feature called Personal Context, which was delayed from last year.
Ask Siri and Write With Siri Features
A systemwide “Ask Siri” toggle will appear in menus across built-in apps, allowing users to send selected content into a new Siri conversation. A “Write with Siri” option at the top of the keyboard is also in testing, surfacing the Writing Tools menu for generating and editing text.
The updated Siri will provide more detailed responses sourced from the web, including summaries, bullet points, and images. It will also generate deeper summaries of daily news using content from Apple News, competing more directly with AI-driven search tools.
WWDC Unveiling and Google Gemini Partnership
Apple plans to unveil the new Siri on June 8 at its Worldwide Developers Conference, as part of the iOS 27 and macOS 27 operating systems. The company announced the WWDC schedule and stated it would highlight “AI advancements,” but has not publicly disclosed specific plans.
Many of the new features are powered by updated versions of Apple’s in-house Apple Foundation Models, developed alongside technology from Google Gemini. The two companies struck a roughly $1 billion arrangement last year, Bloomberg News reported, and confirmed the partnership in January.

The new Siri builds on an overhaul first unveiled at WWDC in 2024 but never released. Apple initially said the features would debut in spring 2025. They were subsequently delayed to March 2026 and again to later this year. Many involved in the effort believe the majority of already-announced changes — including access to personal data and on-screen awareness — will not be ready until fall 2026. The latest internal versions of iOS 27 being tested by employees include these features.
