TikTok has announced new initiatives in the Middle East and North Africa to improve AI transparency and digital literacy.
The platform is introducing educational resources, detection systems, and technologies to help users identify AI-generated content. The updates include resources developed with experts, systems to detect automated spam, and expanded partnerships. These efforts aim to help users understand and engage with content created by artificial intelligence. Meanwhile, the platform continues to invest in tools that give users control over their feeds.
Expanding AI transparency across MENA
To date, the platform has labeled more than three billion videos using content credentials, creator disclosure tools, and invisible watermarking. This labeling system provides users with greater clarity regarding the media they consume. Furthermore, the company is expanding its leadership in AI transparency by joining the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA) Steering Committee.
Detection of automated spam accounts
During the first quarter of this year, the platform removed more than 86 million fake accounts. Building on these enforcement efforts, the company will test systems to identify accounts dedicated to posting automated spam. Specifically, these efforts will focus on content related to politics, current events, financial advice, and medical information.
Industry partnerships and content credentials
Two years ago, the platform implemented C2PA Content Credentials to show when media has been generated or modified using artificial intelligence. By joining the steering committee, the company aims to support the adoption of this technology across the social media industry. In addition, creators in the region are using tools like Smart Split and AI Outline to manage their content.
Educational initiatives and digital literacy
The company has partnered with the National Association for Media Literacy Education (NAMLE) and expert Henry Ajder to develop an education guide. This guide encourages the responsible use of artificial intelligence tools. Additionally, partnerships with organizations like No Filtr and Raspberry Pi have generated over 200 million views for educational content since November 2025.
The platform’s commitment to AI transparency includes a $4 million investment in digital literacy programs. Users can also use features like Manage Topics to control the amount of automated content they see. Consequently, these efforts help maintain a secure environment for creators and viewers alike.
In the Middle East and North Africa, creators are increasingly using artificial intelligence for storytelling and creative expression. The platform supports this development by providing tools that allow creators to experiment with new production techniques. Meanwhile, viewers can manage their preferences to ensure a balanced experience.
