Toyota has launched the Land Cruiser FJ in the Middle East market, adding a compact model to its established four-wheel-drive lineup. The new vehicle joins the Land Cruiser 300, Land Cruiser 70, and Land Cruiser Prado, combining traditional off-road durability with practical urban dimensions.
Engineering Specifications of the Land Cruiser FJ
Built on a traditional ladder-frame construction, the vehicle features braces beneath the floor to increase lateral rigidity. High-tensile steel is incorporated throughout the body structure, while additional spot welding beneath the floor helps reduce vibration. The wheelbase measures 2,580 mm, which is 270 mm shorter than the Land Cruiser Prado, resulting in a 5.5-meter minimum turning radius for tight spaces.
Under the hood, power comes from a naturally aspirated 2.7-litre petrol engine delivering 120 kW (163 PS) and 246 Nm of torque. The powertrain connects to a six-speed Super ECT automatic transmission and a part-time four-wheel-drive system. The front suspension uses a high-mount double-wishbone layout, while the rear features a four-link rigid axle with a lateral rod.
Cabin Practicality and Cargo Capacity
The two-row interior accommodates five passengers with a 6:4 split-folding second row that can slide and recline. With rear seats upright, luggage capacity reaches 795 liters with a minimum cargo length of 735 mm. Folding the rear seats increases total cargo volume to 1,607 liters and extends load length to 1,480 mm for carrying equipment.
Drivers interact with a 12.3-inch display audio system standard across both Mid and High grades. The horizontal dashboard layout assists in monitoring vehicle posture on uneven terrain, while low instrument cowl positioning improves forward visibility during on-road and off-road driving.
Safety Systems and Off-Road Assistance
The High grade includes Toyota Safety Sense active safety features, such as the Pre-Collision Safety System and Lane Departure Alert. Furthermore, the grade adds a Panoramic View Monitor and Blind Spot Monitor to improve awareness in tight urban settings and challenging terrain.
Off-road assistance tools include Downhill Assist Control, Hill Start Assist Control, and an electric rear differential lock. Ground clearance, wheel articulation, and approach angles support mobility across difficult surfaces, expanding options within the regional automotive sector.
Market Availability and Trims
Toyota offers the model in Mid and High grades across the region, with five monotone exterior colors: White Pearl, Ash, Black, Bronze, and Smoky Blue. Mid grade models feature 17-inch alloy wheels, whereas High grade variants are equipped with 18-inch alloy wheels, roof rails, and side steps.
