The feature arrives as conversations with artificial intelligence systems become more common. Users can start temporary conversations with Meta AI where chats disappear by default. The initial rollout supports text-only interactions, with no image upload capability at launch.

Meta explained the incognito chat feature provides a private alternative to standard interactions where prompts and responses may be processed for service improvement. The company designed the feature to support sensitive or personal conversations about health, finances, and career matters.

The company also outlined plans to expand AI functionality on WhatsApp further with a Side Chat feature. This capability will allow users to access Meta AI within existing text conversations, enabling the assistant to provide private help using context from the main chat.

The launch represents Meta’s effort to integrate artificial intelligence more deeply into messaging services without compromising privacy.
