Huawei highlighted the strategic role of the Middle East in deploying next-generation 5G-Advanced networks during the Mobile World Congress Shanghai 2026. The company outlined its vision for mobile communications as the industry transitions toward artificial intelligence. Specifically, the Upper 6 GHz band is entering commercial deployment to support these new network architectures.
David Wang, Deputy Chairman of the Board at Huawei, stated that securing frequency resources is essential for future services. Consequently, operators will require continuous bandwidths of 200 MHz to 400 MHz on the U6GHz band. Notably, more than 20 countries have already designated this spectrum for mobile services.
The Role of 5G-Advanced networks
The deployment of 5G-Advanced networks will help operators manage the growing demands of artificial intelligence agents. According to company projections, the number of active AI agents will exceed 100 billion by 2030. Meanwhile, global 5G subscribers have already crossed 3.1 billion, which increases the pressure on existing infrastructure. Therefore, upgrading to telecommunications systems that support high-speed data transfer is a priority for regional operators.
Uplink Requirements and Token Economy
At the event, the company introduced the concept of a token economy where tokens measure value in mobile communications. Furthermore, AI-driven applications are shifting network demands from downlink to uplink capacity. Specifically, real-time translation glasses require 20 Mbps of uplink throughput to function. As a result, operators must plan for a 1 Gbps peak uplink capacity to support these smart devices effectively.

Real-World Applications of AI Integration
Several operators are already demonstrating the practical use of AI-native networks across different sectors. For example, Singtel used an AI assistant to resolve 70% of routine customer queries in Singapore. Meanwhile, firefighting robots in China use artificial intelligence systems to stream real-time thermal imagery during emergencies. Additionally, logistics networks have reduced shipment delays by 15% by recalculating delivery routes in real time.
Future Spectrum and Standards Timeline
The Middle East is expected to be the first region to deploy a commercial network running on the U6 GHz band. This spectrum opportunity allows operators in Saudi Arabia and the UAE to support advanced apps & software. Furthermore, the company is working on the 3GPP Release 21 standards framework, which will govern mobile communications from 2030 to 2040. This framework is expected to launch in March 2027 to guide global development.
