The new Apple AirPods 5 introduce open-ear active noise cancellation along with redesigned acoustic architecture and Apple Intelligence features. Announced by Apple in Cupertino, California, the updated wireless earbuds remove up to 50 percent more ambient noise compared to the previous AirPods 4 with ANC. In addition, the hardware integrates head-gesture controls and Live Translation capabilities.

Pre-orders for the standard model start at SAR 599, while a version with a wireless charging case costs SAR 699. Retail store availability begins on Friday, September 18, across more than 65 countries. Meanwhile, the updated charging case brings on-stem volume swipe controls and extended battery life to the smart devices lineup.

Acoustic Architecture and Sound Enhancements

The updated model features a multiport acoustic architecture paired with Adaptive EQ to deliver balanced sound across various ear geometries. Consequently, Personalized Spatial Audio provides dynamic surround sound for media playback. The open-ear design combines active noise cancellation with an improved Transparency mode to let users hear external sounds clearly.

Adaptive Audio automatically adjusts between noise cancellation and Transparency mode based on environmental changes. Furthermore, Conversation Awareness lowers media volume when the wearer speaks to someone nearby. These audio algorithms operate continuously through Apple’s computational audio system.

Apple Intelligence Integration and Siri AI

Paired with an iPhone running iOS 27, the Apple AirPods 5 support hands-free assistant capabilities through Siri AI. Users can manage incoming messages, check email confirmations, and direct actions across third-party software like WhatsApp. Siri Interactions allow users to accept or decline prompts simply by nodding or shaking their head.

Live Translation functions across compatible Apple devices powered by artificial intelligence. Users can start translation sessions by pressing both earbud stems, using the Action button on an iPhone, or speaking directly to Siri. Apple Intelligence arrives in beta on September 14 with multilingual support including English, Spanish, French, and German.

Hardware Specifications and Battery Performance

The premium wireless charging case version adds capacitive volume swipe controls directly onto the earbud stem. This variant provides up to five hours of continuous playback with ANC active on a single charge. When combined with the charging case, total playback reaches up to 22 hours under active noise cancellation.

“Both AirPods 5 models deliver a world-class listening experience and enable features like Live Translation for even more people.”

Dave Pakula, Vice President of Hardware Engineering at Apple

The wireless case supports USB-C, Apple Watch chargers, and Qi-certified wireless charging pads. Moreover, the updated earbuds feature improved resistance against dust, sweat, and water during daily use.

Environmental Materials and Apple AirPods 5 Availability

Apple AirPods 5 incorporate 40 percent recycled content across their construction, including 100 percent recycled cobalt in the battery. Additionally, the wireless charging case uses 70 percent recycled plastic. The company manufactures the units using 35 percent renewable energy throughout its global supply chain.

Customers can also secure hardware coverage through AppleCare+ or AppleCare One plans for accidental damage protection and battery service. Shipments for all models begin on September 18.
