Apple has officially announced the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, introducing hardware upgrades that include a variable aperture camera system, the A20 Pro system-on-chip, and integration with Siri AI. The flagship devices will be available for pre-order starting September 12, with official retail availability scheduled for September 18.

iPhone 18 Pro Camera Innovations and Variable Aperture

The updated camera array features a 48MP Fusion Main camera equipped with variable aperture functionality. Six laser-cut blades mechanically transition between aperture settings, automatically adapting to depth-of-field requirements and varying lighting conditions down to ƒ/1.48. Users can manually configure four aperture presets within the Camera app, supported by an API for third-party application developers.

Apple also introduced Apple Reference Image, a verification tool powered by sensor-level signing. When photos are captured in Reference mode, signed sensor data is processed via Private Cloud Compute to generate an unalterable digital reference asset. This feature assists photographers and media professionals in proving image authenticity against synthetic modifications.

A20 Pro Architecture and Thermal Management

The iPhone 18 Pro lineup runs on the A20 Pro chip, fabricated on a 2-nanometer architecture. The processor incorporates a 6-core CPU, a 7-core GPU that delivers up to 40 percent faster graphics rendering compared to A19 Pro, and a Dual 16-core Neural Engine designed for artificial intelligence workloads. Memory bandwidth has increased by 50 percent.

Thermal dissipation is handled through a redesigned vapor chamber with three times the surface area of the previous generation. This architecture places the silicon die side-by-side with system memory, removing memory from the thermal path and enabling sustained workload output.

Battery Life, Connectivity, and Software

Battery capacity allows up to 36 hours of video playback on the standard model and up to 45 hours on the Max edition in eSIM-only configurations. Fast wired charging achieves a 50 percent charge in approximately 15 minutes. Connectivity includes Apple’s custom N1 chip supporting Wi-Fi 7 and Thread, alongside the C2 cellular modem for improved data speeds and power efficiency.

Running iOS 27, the smartphones incorporate Siri AI, which utilizes contextual personal data and screen awareness while maintaining on-device security through Private Cloud Compute. The Dynamic Island has also been adjusted to display up to three Live Activities simultaneously.

iPhone 18 Pro Pricing and Availability Across Markets

Both models arrive in black, silver, glacier, and burgundy color options across storage tiers ranging from 256GB to 2TB. The iPhone 18 Pro starts at SAR 5,699, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max starts at SAR 6,099. eSIM-only variants will launch across multiple markets, including Saudi Arabia, the United States, Canada, and the United Arab Emirates.
