Canva AI 2.0, the company’s most significant product evolution since its 2013 launch, is now available as a research preview. The platform transforms Canva into a conversational, agentic system where teams can move from initial concept to finished, published work in a single location.

The update is powered by the Canva Design Model, described as the first foundation model built to understand design structure, hierarchy, and complexity. Canva AI 2.0 generates fully layered, editable output from a single prompt and improves with continued use.

How Canva AI 2.0 Works

Rather than starting with templates or blank pages, users begin with an idea, goal, brief, or rough sketch and work through it conversationally with the system. The platform assembles designs from individual components with layout, hierarchy, and brand consistency built into the first output. Every element remains fully layered and editable, allowing teams to collaborate, refine, and iterate as concepts develop.

Four core capabilities enable this functionality. Conversational design allows creation to start with a discussion, where users describe ideas and the system generates fully editable designs while maintaining context as ideas evolve. Agentic orchestration gives Canva AI 2.0 access to the complete design engine, calling appropriate tools at the right time to coordinate outcomes.

Layered Object Intelligence and Memory Features

Layered object intelligence ensures everything generated uses individual, editable objects rather than static or locked images. Users can swap images, adjust headlines, or refine fonts without affecting other elements. Memory Library turns every interaction into a building block, with persistent memory allowing the system to understand user workflows, keep projects on brand, and apply style automatically.

The more users create, the better the system understands their preferences, making suggestions increasingly useful over time.

Six New Intelligent Workflows

Canva AI 2.0 introduces six new workflows extending functionality across the creative process. Connectors integrate directly with tools teams already use, including Slack, Gmail, Google Drive, Google Calendar, Notion, Zoom, HubSpot, and others. The system can draw on conversations, content, and context to create finished, on-brand visual outputs.

Scheduling puts work on autopilot, running tasks automatically in the background even when users are offline. Web research brings internet information into the creative process, gathering and structuring data from across the web for business proposals and market exploration. Brand Intelligence ensures every design starts and stays on brand by automatically applying fonts, colors, and style from the first output.

Canva Code 2.0 enables fully interactive experiences built from conversational prompts, with HTML importing allowing users to bring any HTML file into Canva for editing. Sheets AI removes the work of building spreadsheets from scratch, generating fully structured, designed sheets populated with real data.

Availability and Rollout Timeline

Canva AI 2.0 is available today as a research preview. A secret password will be revealed during the Canva Create keynote, with early access and special gifts for those who find it first. General availability rolls out over the coming weeks, subject to terms and conditions.

The platform currently serves more than 250 million people monthly. The company stated that Canva AI 2.0 represents a step toward closing the gap between imagination and finished work while maintaining user control throughout the creative process.
